It's not the Wire, but it's pretty damned good.

 

I watched the first episode of Mad Men on BBC4; didn't like it. And the fact they bury it on BBC4 is very telling to me. Sure, it's probably good, but it doesn't have a wide-spectrum appeal, at least in the UK.

 

So it only hit a measly 43.2 Degrees Celsius over here.

Left my car out in the sun, got into it and it was 10 minutes before the aircon started to work and the steering wheel was cool enough to hold for longer than five seconds.

Yeah, it's a strong period piece. It's not super pop. Probably a toss-up between it and Big Love as to what's my favorite drama in the interim between the Wire and whatever the next really great one is.

 

Yeah, called in sick for work and spent most the day inside.

 

Big Love's another one that opened with a big splash over here, then vanished off the radar.

I guess 60's ad execs and Mormons aren't big sellers over here.
