No no no. The original screenplay nomination is for movies based on original ideas. The Dark Knight wasn't based on an original idea. It was based on the Batman comics and graphic novels. Plus, it's a sequel. Therefore, it automatically would get adapted, as it's also based on the previous movie.

And I am surprised. How could they choose The Reader, a critical flop, over The Dark Knight, one of the best reviewed movies of the year. It just proves once and for all that the Academy is made up of nothing but elitist snobs.

Because I thought they'd learned their lesson when they gave Best Pic to The Return of the King. Guess I was wrong.

 

I always thought that was one of the many, many awards ceremonies in the year that's about making some more money.

I hadn't realised it was the direct peoples opposite of the Oscar's.

 

They had to do that for all the flak they recieved for completely ignoring the first two, `'cos the Academy doesn't do trilogies`

I don't know about direct opposite, but The People's Choice Awards show comes pretty close to, well, the people's choices.
