Sort of a vacation. We went to lay Dad's ashes to rest and Feb was the only month we could all make it over. And we wanted to have at least a few weeks so we coud see all the rellies, catch up and make a good holiday of it. So it turned out quite well in the end.

I used to hate flying as well but now it's just the check-in, waiting to be called, scanners etc that do my head in. The flight itself is ok if you pick a good airline and relax. I do have a weekly rant that I'll post later on in relation to the flight though

 

Sucks to be up this early Kieks. Never been a victim of jet lag but I work day night rotation for my job so I kind of know how you feel and it fucking SUCKS.

 

Agreed, Ant. Went to bed at 10pm on Sunday night when we got back, woke up for about an hour in middle of the night but then slept till 10am. Had I gotten up earlier I might be ok now.

It's ok, I'll shake it in a couple of days I hope.

 

Aside from the sadness it sounds like you had a good time. If it's none of my business that okay but i'm curious as to why you went to Europe to do that. Is your family originally from there?

The flying itself doesn't bother me, I get claustrophobic after a few hours on the plane. The 2 - 3 hour trips never bother me but when we've flown to Vegas it's about made me crazy, it's 4.5 hours long. And I don't think anyone enjoys going through security - it's especially bad over here in Atlanta, Chicago, and New York. Those are some of the busiest airports so it take forever to get through.

 

It usually takes me a full week to properly adjust to the change. Sometimes it's just an instantaneous change, others it takes for fucking ever.

 

You guys are on the opposite side of the world than over there so i'm sure the time change takes quite some time to get used to. And i've told you before Ant, I don't know how the hell you do the shift rotation - that would kill me in probably less than 2 years.

Security aint really bad here, customs can be a hassle. Never been to the states, can imagine it'd be testy there at times.

 

Yeah it's really starting to get to me and I've only been there two and a half years.


Oh yeah, with the escalators one side was working the other wasn't and one of the higher up boss's reckoned it was a OH&S issue to use the non moving side as stairs so it was roped off.

 

lol dad just left for work, spose I better head to bed soon. Fucking state wide fire warnings for today, my mum is massively paranoid thinking it'll go through our suburb.

Not all airports that i've been to over here are terrible but most all of the bigger cities are. It just takes forever - you have to take your belt, shoes, watch, jewelry, wallet, everthing off except for your pants, shirt, and shocks. It takes so long because everyone is getting all their stuff back on or in their pockets after you go through the x-ray machine - which stops forward progress. You just have to have patience.

 

Sorry bama but fuck the states, I'm not going near there.

Yup, we got severe wind and weather warnings today. It's likely another half dozen fires with sprout up. I just hope none sprout up my end of the woods. Having the fires rip through Whittlesea was too close for comfort, only 10-15km away from me.

Hope you or your family weren't directly affected by the fires, Ant. I left just as it all started and was devastated reading the updates over time.

 

I've never taken my shoes off, I always take my belt and pocket contents, and watch off. My brother has had to take his shoes off before, I had to take my jumper off recently as it had a zip on it. I know the hassle you mean.
