i just got my rest in today, just bought more ammo, and now waiting for my compensator to come in. then drill and tap it into place. then i have to go and test to make sure everything i got works at the range before i go. am cutting alot of this very close.

 

How long you will you be gone?

 

Sorry for not being up to date on guns and such but what are you compensating for? shooting long distance and having wind trouble or whats the go?

 

i will be gone for 3-4 days, maybe 5 if the hunting is good and i don't run out of ammo first.

 

the compensator i have custom built is for my 22-250 (think a more powerful m16 rifle bulllet .233). The problem i had in the past 3 years is the gun has so much muzzle flip because it is loaded with max safe gunpowder charge that when i shoot the muzzle bucks up and it takes the line of sight off my target(ie ground squirrels) that i cannot always tell if i hit them or what happens to them after i hit them. No fun if you can't see the carnage.

The compensator is designed to redirect the exhaust gasses to the side of the gun at the muzzle so that the gasses does not go forward with the bullet. by redirecting the exhaust gasses sideways instead of straight back at me i will not only reduce the recoil but will also get rid of almost all the muzzle jump and therefore keeping my scope on sight with my target.

Ahh ok yes i think i understand that, so instead of the gasses following the bullet out of the muzzle they will now be directed out the side near to the end of the muzzle? and this wont have any effect on the path of the bullet?

 

i kill everything that is legal to kill bud. the only thing i kill for fun is ground squirrels. It is fun for me but also very beneficial for my rancher friends. By killing these ground squirrels i save their cattle from accidentally stepping into their burrows and snapping their cattle's ankles. Once a 2,000 pound animal breaks 1 leg it has to be put down because there is no way it can support their entire body weight on just 3 legs. So by killing these animals on their cattle grazing lands it helps them keep the cost of beef down.

Of the animals i hunt/try to hunt that i eat are:

jack rabbits, cotton tails, bear, elk, bighorn sheep (my friend actually got drawn), antelope, pheasants, quail, chuckars, doves, ducks, geese, and turkeys.

Of those animals the only thing i have not eaten yet is elk.

the compensator does not touch the bullet at all. the difference is because the gasses travel out of the barrel and starts to disperse i am just redirecting the natural dispersion and showing it an alternative path to escape from the end of the muzzle. here is a picture of what it is i am getting in the mail soon:

 

Yeah when we used to farm we had to kill the groundhogs because their burrows were a danger to the livestock. I've only hunted deer, and some of the birds/fowl you mention for food.

Just some cousins. We stopped farming and started logging, working outside in the cold I lost my desire to sit freezing my nuts off when I wasn't working.

 

yeah, mine is a bit different in the sense that mine will have set screws to fasten it onto my barrel instead of this model which requires me to send my barrel in to get it threaded. my deer rifle had a store bought compensator and the whole process cost me $185+$25 for shipping ($210 total) and took 6 months to get it sent out and sent back. This one total only took me 3 weeks and costs just $51 total including shipping.

Indeed, it's funny because I used to sit in a tree stand half the day waiting for deer and now they just run down the paths we created without a care in the world. For some reason they're not afraid of the noise for the loader or skidders.
