same here when they did it i'm sure. Bad thing about it is that they would catch other types of fish they didn't want and those would end up dying before the people got them back in the water.

Not really, the Inuk way is totally different than the US way when it comes to game hunting/fishing. You guys actually hunt/fish for survival, most here eat what the bag but it's a more of a sport here.

 

inuit make piffi (char jerky) out of the char we catch with nets. we also freeze some. when we catch enough we take the nets out. usually leave them in for a week at a time. we also share the char with Elders and families that don't have any nets

my way i just take 1 - 2 fish or how many is needed but let others go if they are in a good shape.

Eat fish here has it's daily limits on how many you keep and a minimum size of each different fish. After that it's catch and release. If you get caught over the limits they take your licence, boat (if you're using one), and fine you. Amount of fine depends on how much over you are. There's game wardens (people that police the laws) everywhere around the areas that people fish so very very people try to get away with it. That's how it is here, can't speak for other states. What most people do is keep whatever they catch in a live well till the end of the day then keep the biggest ones they can then release the others.
