She also claims that the original photo thedirty.com released was in fact her. She says a friend took it of her, not during a modeling session for underwear as she first told everyone it was for, but "at home" which she attached to her portfolio intended for "application" and not "publication". Carrie goes on to say the other two photos thedirty.com has thus far released, as well as the "hardcore" shot they plan to publish tomorrow, are photoshopped images.

In the 1960s, it was perfectly common for people to oppose interracial marriage. There were laws against it in many states. I have no problem calling the people who supported those laws racists, just like I have no problem calling people who want to prohibit others from marrying those they love homophobes.

This idiotic woman didn't just inarticulately express her opinion on gay marriage at the pageant, she has since gone out and spoken at anti-gay marriage rallies. So, yeah, I think she's an ignorant homophobe. Maybe you can yell at me some more.

My believing that there is a fundamental right for consenting adults to get married to whomever they wish is what's wrong with this country? Really? Maybe you should look around some more.

I'm going to have to partially agree with whenislaunch on this one.

Just because someone is opposed to the word "marriage" when it comes to a union between two homosexuals does not mean that they are homophobes! People fling all sorts of words around when they've got no other recourse in a conversation. I don't agree with you, so you must be a homophobe. It's gotten so out of hand.

I have a hard time accepting the use of the word "marriage" for two gay people who want to live as a officially recognised couple. That's either because of residual training from my Catholic upbringing, or it could be semantics.

I'm not bothered at all by gay people. I won't bore you with the ol' "I know lots of gay people..." speech (even though I do!). The sexual orientation of a person doesn't matter to me. I don't care. What matters to me is the person they are. Alright...I'll admit it: I'm really curious why gay people feel like they have to have parades and dress in drag (I've been told "because it's fun"), and then complain about people making nasty comments about them. I'm absolutely not saying they have to hide in the closet...but, why don't heteros have parades celebrating their sexual orientation or preferences?

I guess I object more to the idea of someone being labeled a "homophobe", just because they don't like the idea of the word "marriage" being used for a gay couple...just as I would have a problem with someone being labeled a "racist" because they didn't want a person to do something...and they happen to be a different color. Before flinging around labels like "homophobe", "racist", "sexist" or whatever...take the time to find out if the labels really apply.

As for me and my feelings...I think I'm more inclined think that I don't agree with the word "marriage" for two gay people based on semantics. Don't insult me by calling me a "homophobe", because I honestly don't think I am.

My personal opinion is that bartap may have been a little hasty with using the word "Homophobe" to describe Carrie. He makes a good point about "racists" in 1970 but I think "bigot" may be a more attune word to use for describing Carrie Prejean.

As for the parades I feel it's more of a sense of pride then "nah-nah-nah look how fruity we are" (no offense to NE Phun membesr whose participated in the event or whose scheduled to walk this year). Think of the St. Pattys day parades, or Puerto Rican day parades, or the Italian feasts, you're proud of your heritage and excited to represent your ancestors or walk side-by-side with your family without feeling prejudice or shame of where you were born. I would image it's quite the same with the... um... what's it called? The... uh, Gay Parade? Rainbow Walk? Whatever it's called. I'm sure they must feel that they have to hide their relationships or true behavior due to social pressure in their everyday lives, so I guess the parade is an opportunity for them to express themselves without prejudice or fear of judgment.

Racists needed to resort to legislation because they vehemently objected to traditional marriage which had no requirement that the couple be of the same race (or religion, or height, or wealth...). Marriage, as it existed at the time the USA was founded (and, in Western Civ, for centuries before) meant one man and one woman, not closely related by blood. There were, of course, some significant cultural gray areas -- at what age did one become marriageable and what degree of blood separation was required -- but there was widespread agreement that the right number of people was two as was the correct number of sexes involved.

You, like those you denounce as racists, object to this traditional definition of marriage and denounce those who disagree with you as homophobes and bigots. The racists denounced those who disagreed with them as race-mixers and race-traitors. Your tones and tactics are similar even if your goals are not the same.

Child brides have been common through history, much more so than same-sex spouses. Why must they consent? Arranged marriages have been quite common throughout history. May there only be two people involved? What about polygamy? Polyandry? Group marriage? Could someone marry himself/herself, the person they love most in the world? That would be popular in Hollywood...

Once you dismiss tradition as a valid source for defining acceptable relations, or at least those deserving of societal protection and encouragement, you pretty much have to defend every joy and tittle of your position. If you object to fathers marrying their prepubescent daughters (assuming you do, the daughter not being an adult or deemed capable of giving consent) you may not raise tradition or any individual or collective "Ick" reaction in support of your position. That would make you a hypocrite, yes? So what is your objection?

I was not putting gays down for anything. I am well aware that it's not a conscious choice they make, about who they are or who they want to be with. I never mentioned anything about love and/or sex (so I have no idea where you got that from), and for you to come off saying that I've got a sexual problem? Sounds like there is a problem somewhere (but I'm alright). Come down from your high-horse and understand that not everybody is a gay-basher. Not everybody is a "homophobe". Not everybody is prejudiced against other people. If you feel that way, perhaps you need to need to find out why.

Obama has said that he believes marriage should be between a man and a woman, but he has OPPOSED legislation that has sought to strip homosexuals of the right to marry in jurisdictions where marriage has been previously allowed (e.g. Prop 8 in California).
