I'm really pulling for Burton on this one. Hasn't done anything that I have enjoyed for a long time.

but everything he does is usually in the direction that he sees. from Coraline, to Sweeney Todd, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to Corpse Bride, etc. etc.

are you anticipating seeing something different from his direction in this, because it's not likely. oh, and all those films are good that i mentioned.

is there something he did that you liked that is out of what is his normal bizzare envisioned direction?

I've never been a Tim Burton fan. But Sleepy Hollow was amazing.

I guess I just mean that I loved beetlejuice and edward scissorhands and the stop-animation films, BUT I have been disappointed with cashing it in films like planet of the apes and charlie and the chocolate factory. I never saw the first one you mentioned and I probably would have enjoyed sleepy hollow if I couldve understand what the phuck they were saying without using subtitles.

Anyway, I love his quirkiness, but it is hit or miss with me. It has been awhile since it has hit for me...

For me, Beetlejuice was only great because of Michael Keatons genuis performance. I fast forward everything else.

Oh...one film that was a bit off his beaten path was Big Fish, which I really liked.

ok fair enough; but to say cashing in... i dont know about that, is that what he's doing with Alice? i think its fair to say no; besides, now that Mr. Depp is larger than life, most of us know that he's been working with Burton in his quirky films for almost 20 years. I dont think Burton nor Depp assume that they are going to be cashing in when they make a film together. some were huge (Charlie), some weren't so much (Sweeney Todd) but all were envisioned in Burtons quirkiness, which is as unique as a director gets anymore. he reminds me of my all time favorite Stanley Kubrick - not for the quirkiness mind you, but for the originality, attention to perfection and above all bringing their visions to the screen.

(ok with Burton the one that i'm not a fan of was Planet, but he never made it as a "remake" it was to be his original, but because he more than likely was not given the full authority to make it as he wanted, it wasn't as brilliant as his other films).

i also agree about Big Fish. brilliant, and you really need to take another look at the work in Sweeney Todd. Forget about all this fucking bullshit out like Transformers and crap like that. Watch something with some thought put into it. if you would like a Stanley Kubrick one to watch, i recommend either "A Clockwork Orange", "Full Metal Jacket" or "The Shining" if you haven't seen any of those.

I totally agree with hendrimike, I loved old Tim Burton but Planet of the Apes was terrible. I mean do you expect Burton to actually try as much as he did when he was in his prime? Of course he isn't. He's a rich mainstream director. But something about this Alice in Wonderland looks good....I reserve a legitimate critique for after I watch the film.

all his stop animation is good, and that means "old" Burton and "new" Burton as "Nightmare Before Christmas" is old just like "Coraline" is new if you put it in comparing old to new. if you want to say his "old" stuff is better, then it doesn't work in comparing the animation films, nor for his other films for that matter. his last "big" film was Sweeney Todd and he didn't have to try; that film was as good as his "old" stuff and as "Burton" as it gets. he's not a mainstream director, the only thing he may be famous for is the fact he directs Johnny Depp in a lot of his films.

personally, i've seen nothing on this film, who's in it, when it's due, previews... but i expect another full fledged Burton... i was gonna say Burton"esque" but that's for other directors to be, not him. I agree though that i'll reserve judgment until i see this.

I thought Wonka BLEW! Depp was creepy as wonka. Played him like the sicko from silence of the lambs. Seemed a lotta pedo to me......
His animation stuff has been clever though....
    But just my opinion.....

Hey Spider! Where'd you get this? I was hoping to get HQs of the other promo pics as well (Mad Hatter, Queen of Hearts, and Alice herself). If you can point me in the right direction, I'd be extremely grateful. :)
