For what it is worth (not much, really) I make sure I get the systems discs, program discs, and all of the drivers (on disc) with the machine. After I get it fully set up and operational like I want, I then make a "restore" disc set. A set of restore CDs will save a bunch of time if you have to "re-setup" the PC (usually a problem that require a reformating of the main hard drive, etc.).

Might want to consider that for when you finally get your current problem satisfactorily addressed. This is from a man who has had more hard disk crashes and other system failures that wiped out the system and system files necessitating totally starting over, etc. etc. etc.

Sorry if you already know this......I try not to drown folks with advice..:D

LOL - I am with ya, bud! My family hated it when my PC was on the blink as I was a man possessed until I got it up and running again. I am still that way, but maybe not as much as a fanatic as I now have a back up laptop.

A few minutes ago the dogs barked at the window. I looked, and the born-again girl who's a restaurant manager was being helped across the parking lot to her apartment, barely able to walk, but two people (obviously her employees -- they had aprons on). I ran over there and learned she had just come from the hospital -- she pulled a muscle in her lower back. We all talked a minute, the employees had it taken care of, and I offered help if she needed it.

I have an iMac G5 with the Intel, etc... You have way less worries, but there are still things that can happen.

I've had plenty of experience fixing Macs. I've owned only Macs since 1992.

I have never had a MAC. Build several PCs, servers and network systems back in in the good ol DOS days, but have not done much at all since the mid 1990's. Five years ago, I bought my first PC as all of my previous ones I built by ordering separate chassis, MBs, chip sets, HDs, assorted cards, etc. The last time so many components were defective that I swore I would just frigging buy my next one - Bought a Dell EPS - it is old now and needs to be replaced with much faster machines now available, but I do not want Vista on my desktop, so I am trying to wait until Windows 7 comes out before I buy a new system.

Sorry, more than you wanted to know, but I have the gift of ramble on, and on, and on.......:D

Rambling is just fine with me, Thore! I've had Macs because they matched my and my ex-wife' work computers -- we were both in advertising/marketing, and the creative sectors of ad/marketing agencies all have Macs

Same here with the PCs - engineering has been PC based from the get go...I think mostly because engineering, at least in the beginning, was more data based and less graphic based; thus the favor to PC at that time. Now we just need to dethrone Bill Gates and company!
    Oh goodie! [IMG]
