When they evovled Wesley away from being a complete cock all the time, he became a great character.

The Wesley-Willow scene in Season 4 was wonderfully cute.

 

I needed to alter my time management paradigms, but that's a good thing.

I used to leave stuff running for an hour or two or something, go off and shop or whatever, and it'd be nearly done when I got back.

Now, film, just over an hour. Tv show, just under half an hour.

You need to make shorter trips to shops closer to your house.

 

It was a tiny little scene in the midst of Willow showing up to help Cordy, and then take Faith back to Sunnydale.

Wesley and Willow are downstairs, catching up. She's saying she got dark, Wesley says so did I. Willow, I flayed a guy alive and tried to destroy the world. Wesley, oh. I had a woman chained in a closet. Willow, oh, good for you. Wesley, well it's nothing compared...Willow, oh, not, that's dark.

Knowing they're together off-screen makes it gleefully twee. :mrgreen:

In the context of the show, giving his power to Cordy gave her more to do, and allowed them to bring in Wesley as more straight-forward comic relief.

They always said he was only contracted to be in a few eps, but I wonder if he got fired.

 

They were evolving the show, trying to make it as distinct as possible from Buffy, without losing the essential elements.

Having a half-demon Irish comic type offset the dynamic a little. Don't get me wrong, I loved the character. But the show didn't suffer from his departure.

 

I liked Doyle (Glenn Quinn). I think he was offed because too much attention was drawn to him. He played that part really well.

 

Probably the most resonant quote from the show though;

Doyle: Let me tell you a little bedtime story.

Angel: But I’m not sleepy.

Doyle: Once upon a time there was a vampire. And he was the meanest vampire in all the land. All the other vampires were afraid of him, he was such a bastard. Then one day he’s cursed by gypsies. They restore his human soul. And all of a sudden he is mad with guilt. You know: "What have I done?" You know, he’s freaked.

Angel: Okay. Now I’m sleepy.

Doyle: Yeah, well, it’s a fairly dull tale. It needs a little sex, is my feeling. So sure enough: enter the girl. Pretty little blonde thing, Vampire Slayer by trade. And our vampire falls madly in love with her. Eventually the two of them, - well, they get fleshy with one another. Well, I guess the technical term is perfect happiness. But when our boy gets there, he goes bad again. He kills again. It’s ugly. So when he gets his soul back for the second time, he figures hey, he can’t be any where near Miss young puppy eyes without endangering them both. So what does he do? He takes off. Goes to LA. To fight evil and atone for his crimes. He’s a shadow, a faceless champion of the hapless human race.

Don't know about favourite; it wasn't like a ratings/network thing. Whedon was coming off the ratings hit that was Buffy. I'm guessing they pretty much let him do what he wanted.

Then came Firefly.

And it all sort of went sideways. :sad:
