    They call it a "no call/no show," and there is worker-punishment for it. For one, they don't want to appear to favor a worker, and I suppose if they discovered someone was sick and performed an action, the company would be legally liable for that action -- including phone calls.

    My company also likes to keep track of "infractions," so they don't have to give you as big a pay raise when you get your performance reviews.
