she had shoulder surgery, so it fucked up her serving motion. (so did Sharapova).

both of them are "recovered" from surgery, but they are kind of like a baseball pitcher who has had surgery on their arm. It could a year or more after playing again before they get close to where they once were (they may not ever reach 100% again - surgery is surgery).

Neither one serves as hard as they once did ... they are not as flexible in their shoulder so their serving motion is affected. They both are very inconsistent - shots that were automatic aren't anymore. On top of that Ana has an issue with the toss. You may have notice she tossed it to the side a lot making it hard for her to get a serve in. She missed so many 1st serves ...

Maria is very tough mentally ... Ana is not ... I'm sure you could see the changes in her body language when things were not going well.

That being said ... Gisela took it to Ana. When Gisela had a chance to win the match early, she missed a bunch of shots and let Ana bake in the match. Maybe she was feeling pressure too.

 

Yeah but thats bullshit, they act like its only these 4 grand slams, but they play 10 months out of the year, playing tennis almost everyday.

Sure there is more pressure at grand slams, but they play the same players every year and if they werent winning they wouldnt still be seeded and ranked so high.

The fact is the men play on a more consistent basis, while these girls and most of them are under 25 get real emotional and when they choke they cant get over it and continue playing normally.

TLDR: No Excuses

LOL ... the girls are emotional? you were about crying when Sharapova lost. You took it way worse than she did.

Sharapova is especially tough mentally ... if you had a clue you'd know that.

And all you have to do is compare the stats of the unforced errors and 1st serve % to see the difference between the mens and womens tennis.

I mean im pretty sure Sharapova had a shoulder injury before Aus Open 2008, and she couldnt serve the way she wanted to, but because tennis is an all round game she ended up winning the entire thing.

Using Sharapova as an example of tough women is terrible because she has been playing for over 5 years now and has major titles and know what it takes.Most other players Are faulty and the womens ranking move around like crazy all year every year.

It doesnt take away from the fact that Ivanovic choked because she played badly, not because of her serve, because she has always had a strange ball toss.

After shoulder surgery on your throwing/serving arm, the athlete is never the same. They have to become tacticians instead of power players. That's a fact.

 

Having said all that, the Womens tennis is way underrated and i cant believe im watching this same Baghdatis/Ferror match, when channel 7 could've aired both the Ivanovic/Devilwoman and the Wozniacki/other devilwoman matches

 

I just love watching the womens matches.........things can change so quickly in a 3 set match.......Melanie Oudin......came back from 0-4 in the third to make it a match the other day........Pretty much like the NFL any team could beat any other team on any day.........Unless they are the Lions............
