Hardly. PS is 10 years older/more mature than gimp. PS is more polished in almost every way. PS is also much more restrictive than gimp. Basically, Im free to rewrite gimp at whatever point I want, or email one of the programmers, or a project lead. Noway in hell could you do any of those things in PS. It's about freedom. PS has great SYSTEMS to make stuff. But you have to do it the PSWAY. Gimp is like the wild. Nobody tells you what to do, but when you get out there doing stuff, nobody gives a fuck then either. Personally, I think somewhere in the middle would be best. But I'll take personally responsible freedom over some dick telling me what to do any day. That's how I see it.

Make no mistake, PS is way more polished and easier to learn on, but gimp in the end lets you do more because the only program limit is what you can write or find online.
