No idea, never heard of the type of plastic before. We won't come anywhere close to deforming it in the machining process

 

Thanks about the walls. I worked in a fab shop in Edgewater Fla, before/while I was learning computers. We made davits for lifeboats for the Navy and some other stuff, mostly machining castings or total fab. Nothing really under 250 lbs. I was a setup man and eventually became a machinist 3rd class by the time I left to do computers full time. We did some small jobs on some poly plastics that required special coolants instead of standard cutting oil because of the high sulphur content. I was thinking of keeping the piece cool during a milling procedure. We had trouble with that sometimes if the tool wasnt brand new.

 

Very cool...we rarely do large things like that here, more of a job shop, although this job I'm working on would be a production run if I can get it.

The plastic parts I need to quote are just small round parts, so it would be a quick CNC lathe job.

All the plate would be blanked out in the waterjet first and then sent to the mills.

 

gotcha. If I can find them in the storage unit, I have some pics a buddy took from back then of me hanging from an overhead crane above a 14 foot vertical mill pulling chips during a facing cut. I'm about 15 feet in the air with a long rodkeeping the chipout of the head while it's facing. The piece was the housing for a tunnel thruster for the USS Reagan. I think we did 64 in all and I did the setups for all of them. If I rem it right, each housing casting was about 14,000 lbs raw and about 12 by the time they hit the paint shop.
