I did have some not-so-good news today

No paycheck...no money in the company account :?

 

I have to look this up: I had always thought water went down the drain clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere, and counterclockwise in the Southern Hemisphere. Someone said that's a wives' tale. Now I'm inclined to believe it's a myth. And I'm pissed at the person who taught me that when I was a kid!

 

I've had that happen. I was working for a startup company. It really sucks. What did they tell you?

Today I...

wandered aimlessly under a pastel blue sky, chalked with smudges of feathery cirrus, the sun overhead a brilliant beacon casting off an embracing warmth like the familiar hug of a loved one. I strolled among perfect strangers, nodding, jesting, all of us sharing a common, beautiful day, ordinary yet extraordinary, filled with the budding promise of Spring and all it inspires.

Along the way my peregrinations brought me to a wash, a scar on the landscape carved by countless desert storms, and there I stopped, gazed on with no more thought than a wisp of smoke makes on my mind. I met a dragonfly, and then a humming bird, while listening to the easy gurgle of water making its way past and over and around rocks and rubble, the jaunty peels of children laughing, wafting over from the playground not too far off.

It was then that I remembered I would never again hear the laughter of my own child - save for in my memory - or feel the unremitting joy that her laughter inspired in me - save for in my heart, a sorry substituted. And I was devestated. And then as if she were beside me I felt a calming, a familiar sensation that told me through no sense other than intuition that it was okay, that life is for the living, that my being alive will carry her on through time as long as I hold her in my heart.

And the day was marvelous to me once more.
