I just read that in 2004 the Australian and New Zealand Football Associations said "The term Soccer will no longer be used to describe this sport to bring Australia into line with the vast majority of other countries which call the sport football" and "The international game is called football and were part of the international game so the game in New Zealand should be called football".

This website is one of the biggest sporting ones in Australia, you'll note that AFL is 'Australian Football League', a game indigenous to our country and played for over 150 years, it's been the number 1 football code for ages. But it gets referred to as AFL and the 's' word does not appear, it's football

So every other nation on the planet calls it football, but the yanks still delude themselves their stop-start little game of rugby with added padding (aww bless 'em!) is the real thing.

What's really frustrating is that the U.S. has the potential to have a really good football (ooops...soz soccer) team, and may well get to the knockout stages at this Summer's World Cup, but won't know or care a damn about it as they only favour sports that stop every five minutes so they can shovel more burgers and piss-week beers down their bloated throats.

I'd like us to have a world cup sometime before I'm dead, but I'll make do with the Olympics in a couple of years (and never mind the fact we haven't got two pennies to rub together at the moment so will be paying for it in our tax for the next gazillion years).

You shouldn't count out all the african teams, because they all wanna prove something in front of the world, Algeria might cause some problems, or for example the ivory coast might cause a lot of problems in their group, brazil is safe but I think portugal might be in trouble
