Looking outside it appears that snow is letting up, but earlier it was basically a blizzard outside. Roads were really shitty earlier this morning

 

Short night. Too short -- they didn't give us a lunch (again!) and kicked us out a few minutes before they would have been breaking local labor laws. Ass wipes.

 

Unreal! It's been ~ 80F here the past couple of weeks. Supposed to rain tomorrow night then another cold front come through but highs will still be 60's and that'll only last a couple of days.

huh? How many hours did you work? They can't make you work 4 hours w/o at least a break. That's one thing I don't complain about here, whenever I want to I just walk out back and light up and whatever time I want to run get something to eat is up to me.

 

The snow is too wet to really accumulate, we have only about 4 inches here now, but I just got off the phone with my boss and he lives a bit higher up in the foothills (about 7500' elevation) and he said he has 8" at his house

 

LOL! The good thing I took out of that quote was your boss was at his house.

 

They substituted a 15 minute break at the normal lunch time. A year ago we had two 15-minute breaks and a half hour for lunch. They've legally found a way to shave 45 minutes of our rest time.

 

He's actually on his way in, he can't call from home because he gets no cell reception in the canyon and they have no land line.

And now it's snowing harder again :?

 

That's a crock of shit! I don't see how they can get away with that.

Supposedly 2 15 minute breaks and 1/2 lunch is what we get too. I never take 15 minutes and 1 time, just walk out back for ~ 5 minutes when I smoke and rarely take lunch. I just eat something at my desk.

 

Maybe it won't stack up to much on you.

 

In Colorado, employers aren't required to give any breaks, other than lunch, unless you work in the service industry

 

I hope not....if it stops before lunch, at least it will give the roads a chance to dry out a bit and get rid of all the slush

 

:? You'd think people would do what they could for their employees to keep them happy. Guess that just shows how the umemployment rate is playing in employers hands right now.

As much as I love the snow I'm glad I don't have to worry about that but a couple times a year at most.

 

That break/lunch scenario is based on being in the building 8.5 hours. They cut the first 15-minute break and, therefore, we were there less than that. Then the crew got faster and we sometimes left when the 2nd 15-minute break would kick in, having only taken a half-hour lunch. Anyway, now they're basing everything on us working a six-hour night. If it's not done, we punch out for a half hour lunch, but 3.5 hours after lunch time, and only because it's required by law. It is complete bullshit, but it is legal.

 

Yup, employers definitely have the edge over workers in this kind of market.

Even if I had breaks, I wouldn't take them, I work straight thru until the end of the day. It's rare when I even eat lunch, and when I do, I usually do it at my desk.

 

That's very true! And yeah, my day is 8.5 hours too. :? The folks in my dept. that are on salary get 1 hour for lunch making their day 7.5 hours but get paid for 8. Us hourly folks get 1/2 hour but we get time 1/2 for OT where the folks on salary just time. They only get OT when called in after hours though. Overall I guess it works out to about the same IF hourly folks only work 40 hours - that's something I haven't done in years. If they make me go salary they'll see A LOT less of me aound here.
