    Well, if you are going to have to reformat, I would reinstall Vista and that will wipe out whatever infection you got, then after you get Vista on, you can download the Win7 links and install that. Might as well go all the way to Win7 if you have to reformat

    Well, as long as you have the Vista disc, the reinstall should be easy...just put it in the drive and reboot and follow all the instructions.

    If you're doing a clean re-instal, DONT do a vista >upgrade win7. MS is notoriously shit at upgrades. It has 50-60% MORE fuck ups than a clean install. If you want to seriously clean the drive of everything, grab an ultimate boot cd or Hiren's boot cd. That's the way to really start over.

    Yup, it's the one I have on my PC and my laptop and I have installed it on a PC at work. It's an OEM copy and works perfectly. After it's installed, you run the activation app and you are good to go. I've been using it for about 6 months now with no problems.

    Switch your antivirus to the Norton security suite from Comcast...it's free for being a cutomer and it's rated #1 for the 2nd year in a row by PC World magazine

    There is absolutely no problem going from Vista to Win7. He just needs to reinstall Vista first so that he can dowload and extract the Win7 files
