so, let me get this straight..

1: do i just stick the disc in now? (after closing all this of course)
2: what about the other disc? 'drivers and utilities' (for reinstalling dell studio 1535 computer software)
3: i have other discs too.. for reinstalling 'media direct' 'webcam' 'fingerprint scanner' 'roxio' 'microsoft works'

Yes, after you close everything, put the Vista disc in and reboot and make sure that you choose a complete install and not a repair. Then when Vista is reinstalled, you will use the driver disc to reinstall all the drivers.

You won't need any of the other CD's because then you will just be downloading and then installing Win7

Since win7 pretty much IS vista with a new kernel build and kde 4.3.5, yeah, it's about the same. It's actually a bit faster because of system bloat, but it has quite a few refinements which evens things out.

@$$, Hiren's is a cd which has a copy of windows PE and a bunch of "save me" utilities on it. If you'd had the cd, you probably wouldnt have to re-install. It has good antivirus, and because it runs from cd, it cant be infected.

Cy - Can I use Hirens to boot a CD that won't boot. If I can, I may be able to recover some nice stuff from an older PC! :D

If you mean, can you use the cd to boot an old crashed pc, the answer is certainly, as long as the cd drive is good. The newer hirens even support usb drives, so you can use SOME external storage drives with the cd. That way you can move all your old porn to storage drives while running the boot cd. It even looks almost EXACTLY like a winxp install.

No need for safe mode or anything, the laptop will automatically boot from the CD and just follow the instructions for a full install (NOT a repair). After Vista is reinstalled you will then need the other disc to reinstall all your drivers. After that, then you should be back to when the laptop was brand new. Then you can use it again while you download all the Win7 files. We'll go over the Win7 installation when you get there. First let's just get Vista reinstalled and make your laptop usable again

Vista will do that when it reinstalls itself...it will reformat the HDD before it installs

It's intimidating at first, but after you do it once or twice, doing an OS install/reinstall is no big deal

$$, Since Mile is already helping you out, i'll save the other for another time.

For everybody who isnt doing a reinstall, lol, here's a RC for Flash that will FINALLY add hardware acceleration for flash

    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html

Remember, it IS an RC so Adobe isnt guaranteeing you wont get fucked, but it's out of beat now, so you have a good chance of being the first people you know that get a decent flash experience. (If you have worthwhile hardware at least ;))
