Well, in most cases, one party has enough seats, first past the post as we say. 326 seats this time around is the magic number. So, that party has a majority, forms a government.

In the case of a hung parliament, it gets a bit squiffy, but the party with the most seats gets first crack at forming a government.

In theory, she could wade in with her sleeves rolled up if she doesn't like what's going on, back room deals between parties etc, and just dissolve Parliament off her own back and call another election.

But that's a radical solution, and would most likely set in motion our republicans (and the European Union), who dearly want to remove her as Head of State.

Now they also mentioned that Brown has the option of saying that he wants to be the one to form a government? What happens if the leader of the winning party tries and Brown tries? Does it come down to who can get the most followers from the smaller parties?

To be honest, I don't really know who has first crack; there's some stuff online about them arguing over who'll get first attempt. I always thought it was the largest party. I may be wrong.
