What's Up With Rapidshare? + New File Hosts

I'm fairly new here but I'd say ditch SM as fast as possible. It's a haven for spammers looking for a quick buck and it'll ruin what I think is a great board. I'd say Hotfile is the better choice between the two, although I personally prefer Megaupload. Never had a problem with them at all. The sooner Sharingmatrix is gone, the better, and I don't think you'll regret that decision.

They lost a customer in me when they screwed me over concerning my leftover trafficshare of 53 gigs out of the original 100 i bought months ago. I emailed them 5 days ago and still have not heard from them. I guess customers are not important to them. This new changeover will hurt them worse then make them better.

 

I too would only ever download from RS, but I have now deleted my entire collection from there.

Another site I go to uses small Icons like you are suggesting. The file host must be indicated as part of the posting process and the downloader can see immediately what host the file is on. (HF) (RS) (MH) for multiple hosts...

As a result of the recent adjustments to our product and pricing model we have received a lot of feedback from our users. There was also positive response but we want to be honest with you: most answers were negative. With our adjustments we have alienated many users. As a matter of course, that was not our intention. Instead, it is our goal to introduce a system that gives our users more flexibility. However, we are happy about every single user response that we have received as this is the only way we can learn what our users really want. That is the reason why we have fundamentally revised our offer one more time and made it much simpler.

In addition to the free Premium Accounts, with immediate effect there is only one package for everybody: RapidPro

For 99 Rapids users immediately receive a traffic volume of 30 GB and a storage volume of 10 GB which last for 30 days.

price/ 30 days storage/ 30 days traffic/ 30 days
RapidPro 99 Rapids 10 GB 30 GB

 

^ just saw that. It's NOT different - just adjusted pricing. Basically, it's a slightly less expensive version of the RapidSmall account - priced on a monthly basis instead of a daily basis.

Old RapidSmall account:
- 1gb traffic / day (~30gb / month)
- 10gb storage (same)
- Cost 4 rapids / day (~120 rapids / month)

New RSPro account:
- 30gb / month (same)
- 10gb storage (same)
- Costs 99 rapids / month (less than before)

Still, no rewards program (no free premium accounts). And uploaders are charged 2 rapids / 1gb storage / month over 10gb. So the same lack of incentives remain.

IMHO, same situation as before.

PLEASE NOTE: RapidShare links are still allowed on phun - that never changed. All the admins and mods are working hard on reposts, but any help you can provide is appreciated - report reposts in the FORUM ISSUES thread - it makes the mods jobs a little easier. And, we are working on new/adjusted procedures to address issues.

Thanks for the feedback GE, IMHO the very 1st new/adjusted procedure should be the re-banning of SharingMatrix, it seems to be the cause of about 50% of the trash that's being posted and that seems to be because it's the easiest to cashwhore from. Also, I agree that the NEW new policy at RS isn't terribly different from the OLD new policy, but at least it's easier for people to understand and get a handle on and the price is a bit more reasonable.

I've been pretty active in reporting reposts; however, the latest changes have been overwhelming. There are posts and posters bombarding the site with such volume it's difficult to keep track.

I just killed over 20GB worth of links and am still well outside the new storage capacity for RS. I have a MU account that will be my method of distributing links. Not sure I'm sold on HF ... but SM definitely sucks!

Thanks for the clarifications, too! The ambiguous wording of RS legalese is dumbfounding!

 

You need to stop people registering new accounts and spamming the forum....

Also not a bad idea but a bit hard to implement in real life I would think... Maybe a limit on number of new accounts per day for a couple months would help and/or limit the number of posts by new members to 2-3 per day until they have maybe 2 or 3 months membership... just some thoughts on it.

 

Well...don't know what to do...that's shameful !
I had more than a million points & 700.000 Premium points...now they say i have to pay to download my files
IMHO they should be banned immediately from every existing Board, i will repost all my files.
I hope to find a good File hosting service as Sharingmatrix & Hotfile are not right the most efficient ever.
I'd suggest to add Netload maybe.

 

I have premium accounts with rapidshare, hotfile and sharingmatrix (and nothing else). Sharingmatrix does work fine with a premium account but admittedly is a poor host for free users. It is a favorite of Russian posters and I found too much good content to ignore it. Megaupload and mediafire seem best for free users. Fileserve is mediocre but does work. Oron is just awful though.
