Sharingmatrix is frustrating as hell for free users. A ten minute wait to download a file. Thanks, but no thanks. I can handle the 15-30 minute waits BETWEEN downloads on RS and HF, but a 10 minute wait right out of the box is just ridiculous. Just another reason I'll be completely ignoring anything posted on SM, no matter how badly I may want it.

I agree. If I see Sharingmatrix I just close the threadon the spot. I've wasted hours on their crappy 10 minute countdowns just to watch it reset as soon as it hits zero, and I won't be doing so again.
I do wish RS would make up their mind what the hell they're doing. I boughtt another month from them just before all this happened.
Perhaps new posters not being able to start new threads (or possible just not being able to post links) until they've thanked a set number of people? It might encourage people to get involved more; perhaps that would stop them wanting to post crap/repost so much. Just a thought, and maybe I'm relying too much on people being relatively nice, but you never know...

I've already stated my suggestions on what to do about Sharingmatrix, Hotfile and the insane increase of low-quality posts & reposts. Hopefully, things will turn to the better in the near future.

Of course, we all know how crazy it's been in the Sexy Videos section, but it's even more sobering when you look at the numbers... it took me about an hour, but I decided to take a comparative look at the increase thread traffic at Phun over the past 4th of July weekend (July 2nd - 4th) compared to another past 3-day period in late May (Memorial Day weekend, May 28th - 30th) before SharingMatrix and Hotfile were added.

Now keep in mind, this is only applies to threads started during this period and I figure there's a +/- 10 threads to these numbers. Still the numbers are just head-shaking:

Threads Started May 28-30 (before Hotfile and SharingMatrix)

    May 28 - 52
    May 29 - 60
    May 30 - 51

Total threads: 163, average of 54.3 threads started per day

Threads Started July 2-4 (after Hotfile and SharingMatrix)

    July 2 - 241
    July 3 - 242
    July 4 - 266

Total threads: 749, average of 249.6 threads started per day!

Phunfolks, that is a 360% increase in threads started since SM and HF were added. And I don't think the quality of posts has increased anywhere close to that percentage (it's probably gotten worse). I mean, when 31 new threads are started in only an hour (11:00AM-12:00PM, July 4), I just feel for the mods in how they're dealing with all of this. And as more cash-focused posters join Phun, that thread average will only increase.

In addition to what mokkoriman said above, at the time of writing this:
-1 post on the first page only used Megaupload
    -5 only used Rapidshare
    -12 only used Hotfile
-20 only used sharingmatrix (2 of these didn't even have screens)
Any others used combinations of hosts, and only 1 post gave all 4 hosts as an option.

So that's 20 files that a lot of us can't get at all; and even if we could, we'd have to wait God only knows how long to get the whole thing. And that's just the first page.

At the very least, posters should have to specify which filehost they use in their thread title so we know which threads not to waste our time looking at.

I agree SHaringmatrix is a very very poor hoster even for an uploader its not easy to upload something. You can keep Hotfile and you could add depositfiles instead of sharingmatrix.

Concerning the complaints about waiting time, our times are 30 seconds for the first download and 10 minutes for every download after that. This is one of the most generous interval in the industry!

People have reported problems like this before. In those cases, we found those users to all be using the same ISP, who was forcing them to go through a proxy. So, basically, to us, they all seem like one user because they have the same incoming IP address! This means that a user's real first download is NOT the first download from that IP address.

All that to say that if some of you are experiencing errors in wait times, it is probably a technical issues. Are you, by any chance, using proxies? Or on the same ISP that perhaps routes you through a proxy?

Please let us know so that we can look at this. As the new owners of SharingMatrix (soon to be FileSonic), we're very keen on ensuring a high quality of service. I guarantee you that if you give our service a chance, you will be more than pleased - especially with the launch and optimization of our new site later this month.

    Regards,

    Your Dedicated SM Team

it is very sad what seems to be happening to RS. there seems little or no reason these days to upload there.
so just as a trial I purchased a month at hotfile. OK the 30 min wait is gone but the d/l speeds are PAINFULLY SLOW. very disappointing.
I have NEVER d/l anything whatsoever from sharingmatrix simply because it wont let me. it is always 10min wait. followed by 10min wait. followed by 10min wait. presumeably forever. even for the first d/l. so I have no idea what the d/l speed is there.
    my conclusions--
    bad times ahead.
"sharing"matrix is the biggest pile of shit.
and PLEASE PLEASE dont ever allow oron.com onto this board.

I've had a 10 minute wait EVERY single time I've tried SM, right from the very first.
No proxy here at all as far as I know.
See above. No proxy as far as I am aware. Timer resetting after the 10 minute countdown ends. EVERY single time.
I can DL just fine from Rapidshare, MegaUlpload, or even Hotfile. it's JUST Sharingmatrix this happens with.
This is not a browser issue either; it happens with Firefox, IE8, and JDownload as well.
I hope you're right, because as it stands I won't be downloading a single thing I see hosted with you. And not just because I seemingly can't either.

I've downloaded probably 10 files from sharingmatrix. 1 of those 10 files, I got the 30 second wait time, and it was NOT the first one. It may have been the first one that day. However, the following day, I was told to wait indefinitely, never given a timer to download. It was maybe 3 hours later before I got the 10 minute timer again. I made absolutely certain I had no active downloads.

My opinion on the sharing choices, however, differs slightly from the others voiced here. So far, I have had no negative issues resulting from clicking on links; IE spyware, redirects, etc. In addition, as a 'free' user, I have been able to download as many as 4 files at a time since the changes, as opposed to the 2 maximum I was able to download before. That, for me anyway, is a plus.

The other thing I have to say about sharingmatrix... sure, that first file makes you wait 10 minutes, but so does the second one, and the third. With hotfile, the first one makes you wait a minute, then the second one makes you wait 31 minutes. Overall, by the third download, I'm doing better with sharingmatrix. I'm not getting stellar download speeds out of either site, but I've got better things to do than sit and watch download speeds. The file will download, and I'll be playing my xbox while it does.

Personally, I'm fine with all 4 of the current file hosts, so long as they stay clean. Though, I will say, the volume increase since the new hosts has made it hard to read through all the posts.

CEASE PAYING CASHWHORES for uploading to your 'service' and that will go a LONG way toward solving the main problem. If you want to 'pay for play' then go to a 'points' system similar to what RS used to use so that points only go toward account upgrades/continuation. As long as you pay MONEY to these jagoffs you are going to get tons of shitty files (basically whatever the cashwhores think they can spam out there and get paid for) that drag down your 'service' and our boards/forums.

I've never had a problem with a free download on any hosting site except Sharingmatrix, not once. For the last 3 days it's been telling multiple downloads are not allowed and to buy a premium account. I haven't even been allowed to download one file, let alone try multiples at once. Why the fuck would I give someone money for a premium account when the free download hasn't even worked?

Something's going on here, in my personal opinion. If the mods were really listening to the members, Sharingmatrix would have been banned days ago. Go back and read the posts in both of the threads, everyone can see the consensus for themselves. Yet it's not banned; and not only that, someone from Sharingmatrix somehow knew to come to this thread and try to defend itself in front of everyone? Seems shady to me.

Like I said, just my personal opinion. Take it how you want

Then again a lot of them are just jagoffs.

I posted this elsewhere, but isn't it time the threads were combined/merged to get a true perspective?

I for one started to use SM (free) when I could actually download from them, however they appear to have blocked Western Europe and the USA from free downloading in the hope we will buy premium accounts, so I say ban them.

Also, a lot of posters seem to forget Megaupload was an acceptable host before this all started, along with RS.

Anyway no more uploads from me for now.

What a load of BS. I don't use a proxy. I still get the 10 minute wait on the first download. No sale here pal. I won't be using your terrible service again.

Get rid of the ten min & change to 30 seconds.

Fix your proxy server problem (yess, I mean YOUR problem) & then we'll see.

Well i'm interested in downloaders opinion cause File hosting choice mostly depends on them.
I usually upload (as you can see here in Phun) & this is my opinion : HF & SM really s*ck !
Last night i controlled my file list in HF & found N/A for each & every file uploaded, so i started googling just to understand & found out a great news : "poor idiot...how could you see the number of downloads if you do not give us your Paypal number ?!?".
SM wants Paypal number to let me Remote upload...
    That's really absurd !
I don't give a damn about money, just looking for an efficient service & maybe some free month Premium as reward.
I'll keep on using Megaupload & i hope to find something good in the future.

another vote for sharingmatrix to be re-banned.
10 minute waits followed by error messages do not a good file host make.

While some hosts have up to 60 seconds wait time, most have d/l limits up to 1GB per day, but HF and SM/FS are the only hosts that I know of that have wait times between d/l's, regardless of file size.

The wait time on SM/FS was always the same, whether I used a proxy or direct access.

Lately, HF's d/l speed has improved some (225 Kbps vs. 100 or less), but the last time I tried SM/FS (last week sometime), I got a d/l speed of only about 100Kbps, which is way too slow for larger files.

Now, MUL has 45 second wait time for regular Free users and 25 seconds for Registered "Free" users, 1 GB per 24 hours, fast u/l speeds (up to 200 Kbps) and usually super fast d/l speeds of up to 900 Kbps.

For me, it's a no-brainer on which host to use.

    Why fileserve isn't allowed?
It's almost the same as sharingmatrix but just WAY better and faster for the free users.

OK I checked 2 other filehosts:

    1-st megaupload
    20 files were uploaded
    files were downloaded 4500 times
I have 500 points lol, so I need 9500 more 2 upgrade account

    2-nd sharingmatrix
    20 files were uploaded too
    files were downloaded 1300 times
I have 1200 points and it's all to upgrade account to premium
