Because mediafire isn't completely reliable in the longterm. I've seen megaupload files uploaded by users without premium accounts that still exist some 3 years later. On the other hand some mediafire links go dead, give errors within weeks.

And that's still about a million times better than Shitmatrix where you can't even get a download started most of the time.

When SM was not considered acceptable here, it actually worked fine for me as a free host. It was easy to get a download slot in my country.
Now the exact opposite is true.

In the wake of RS’s 7-1 attack,
and their disregard for an unspoken trust most of us had that the Swiss were at least intelligent enough not to shoot themselves in the foot,
there likely is not enough structured file host capacity to fill the void.

    DO NOT BAN SM
, everybody needs them to help take over the load, freeing up space on the hosts the rest of us use.
They deserve a special $$$ sub-forum for posts hosted with $$$ hosts

I could care less if people want to make money this way, as long as it does not become part of my reality.

    • A sub-forum for posts that EXCLUSIVELY contain $$$ links
    • Another for posts that INCLUDE RS links

Many RS posters have points, and at least 10 G of storage.

I know this has been mentioned before but with the many more posts being made it would be REALLY HELPFUL IF POSTERS WERE OBLIGED TO INDICATE IN THE TITLE WHICH FILEHOST IS BEING USED. how easy would that be?
this would save a LOT of time for me and I guess for some others too.

    PS
    "sharing"matrix is a misnomer.

Fine, do that, make a sub-forum for shitmatrix and the other spam/cashwhore filehosts but also keep the posts from showing up on the front pages and pushing down all other posts, if someone wants to check out what's in there make them click on that sub-forum specifically, otherwise don't have the crap posted there show up and clutter up the rest of the forum for the rest of us. Still, better yet, BAN SHITMATRIX ALTOGETHER!!!!

i think these problems occured because they're migrating to filesonic.com,
but it is still a shitty filehost anyway... slow upload and download, not worth a dime.

I understand now that blocking SM is a long shot but it would be So Cool like most have said that you must mention the host in the thread title.
Please bring in that rule :)
I think that might help in a few of us backing of bashing SM ;) we can just ignore the posts & move on.

So, took a mini-break from actively posting here at Phun for a bit - not only cuz the spamming and reposting madness was getting to me - but also to check out in detail how other forums that I'm also a member are handling the new Rapidshare policy. Yes, hard to believe there are other naughty forums like Phun out there. :lmao:

I'm only part of a handful that I'm active in but of the public forums, it's gotten quite weird as new "mandatory filehosts" are being implemented that I barely heard of, Rapidshare being a "banned filehost" which is an odd choice and of course, ca$hwhore posters cropping up and filling pages upon pages. The one thing I did read was how Megaupload's domain was almost corralled for copyright/DMCA violations... they got out of it somehow (might be because their based in Hong Kong, not sure).

So a couple of things to add: with the policy change of Rapidshare and the potential of other filehosts taking this road or being yanked all-together, new filehosters will probably be added Phun to adjust for changing conditions. This may explain while Sharingmatrix has been allowed for so long despite a fair majority of active Phun members detesting the overall quality of SM. And you know what, if SM remains on Phun I would grudgingly accept it; if Megaupload or another Phun filehost gets nixed in the future, at least Phun will be ahead of the filehosting problem somewhat by having both HF and SM. That said, I don't like Sharingmatrix and don't plan to use Sharingmatrix till they improve their service; from what I've seen in the feedback of most active members, Sharingmatrix exclusive uploads are not getting much love or attention for the most part.

My major anger and ire in the past weeks have been towards the recently joined ca$hwhore posters that have displayed a detestable level of behavior of reposting, spamming and bumping. It's easy to blame Sharingmatrix - and I love doing so - when the main cause of the problem are these rather new "un-Phun" members. OH and to a lesser extent, let's not forget inactive members that, out of the blue, are reposting on Sharingmatrix as well! :madfawk:

So with that in mind, it is necessary IMHO to add new stricter forum procedures for newly joined members. Whether it's an increased post count before posting a thread (I think it's set at 10 now, it should be bumped to 50), sub-forum restructuring, mandatory posting procedures, or a combination of all, it's just too easy to get on Phun and make it un-Phun. I personally would like Sharingmatrix gone until they improve their service but I think it's more necessary to apply new forum measures to prevent the abhorrent actions of un-Phun members. With these new measures, if Phun needed to add another new filehost with promising incentives (i.e. Fileserve), the ca$hwhoring would likely be reduced in future.

One last note - I think we can all agree that we don't like Rapidshare's new business plan, but I think it would be wise to keep Rapidshare as an official filehost. I think many uploaders who have been using Rapidshare for awhile have files that will be lasting for awhile. And despite their new policies, RS is still relatively reliable.

I know, long rant - thanks for reading if you did.

Some good points there Mokki. My guess is with all the out cry against the quality of Sharing Matrix, this shitty excuse of a file host should have been banned weeks ago. Although there has been an argument made that this wont solve the cash whoring, spamming, etc., I believe the problem would have been at least 50% or more solved if it were banned. Then the mods and Admin, could monitor the progress. If the majority of the problems weren't solved by that ban, then take the next step, such as you mentioned with the limits, and sub-forums. As it sits now, with no action being taken at all during this discussion phase, new members and spammers are running a muck. Making a visit to Phun not so enjoyable. I feel sorry for the mods that are trying to control this madness while we all await a decision. P4ths looks to be breaking his back tracking down these spamming morons, and trying to handle as many forum issues that the concern members post! I notice that you put in a great effort also Mokki to help clean up some of the garbage in the SVF. I make a good effort to help out myself, but I must admit its a tall order to round up all the morons! This is why I say an immediate ban for SM for the first step is needed. This would lower the load on the mods tremendously until they figure out what steps to take next. Just my 2 cents!

We are working on some new rules for posting videos and we hope to have them up very soon, I also like the suggestion to increase the number of moderated posts to 50, but I'm not sure how the others will feel about it.

yes, RS is now among banned filehosts on many forums, which is overreaction in my opinion too

Rasing post count prior to creating a thread could result in an increased number of monosyllabic posts of "invaluable" sence, the rest of measure are exactly the ones I've been talking about last week

au contraire, very good and reasonable post

If these posts can be moderated and vetted by staff, perhaps there is a way of discounting rubbish posts like the ones you mentioned from counting towards the total needed to start a thread?

    Seems the Feds here agree.
The Brazilian Government decided that people who receive even a fraction of a cent from $$$ file hosts are in the business of selling pornography, or whatever that content happens to be, making them immediately guilty of crimes against the financial structure of the country (the worst accusation of all).

TRUE STORY: Working with his new ‘earn easy money at home business’, some fool posting from the shallow end of the gene pool made it onto national prime time news here, becoming instantly famous, accused, and arrested for selling ‘illegal’ porn (CP, or what the locals qualify as such).

People in the sex shop and video rental business here assure me that videos of Little Kitty when she was 18, or Lupe at 19 are bound to bring visits from the Federal Police.
Sworn statements on US soil, or foreign legal guidelines mean little to the protectors of Community Standards. Appearances count more. I have seen Tracy Lords videos at the sex shop that were filmed when she was 16. Nobody cares because she looks much older with her pendulous boobs.

Adding to the absurd nature of standards here, Zoo sex is ubiquitous, and very popular, you often see it on the upper shelves at newsstands..
When questioned whether or not they realize that most, if not all human diseases originate from the animal kingdom, they imply that I am just prejudice.

    Conclusion:
Standards in the US, Brazil, the Ukraine, Saudi Arabia and Denmark vary greatly. Since you can’t control the communities that Phun reaches, you might think about those impossible to trace payments from $$$ hosts.

If RS got scared about being involved in a criminal activity, and aligned itself with the content providers, the Obama Administration is working on sweeping changes to give more control over sites that publish illegal or embarrassing material, YouTube and RS are benefiting by copyright decisions, and Mega was nearly corralled for violations…the writing is on the wall.

Why risk posting anything that does not hide under the umbrella of rights (freedom of expression).
A Forum for discussion, with full information about the content, and perhaps an original thought or two is a thinly disguised ruse for sharing content, but when dealing with hypocrites, it has to be by their rules.

So I have been away for a while and I just logged into my rapidshare account to find out I am about 2 weeks late in converting my points to extend my account.... not sure how many I had, but enough for 4 or 5 months anyway. The gave me the 99 to keep it going another 30 days, but once that is over, hmmm I guess we will see.

I have 50 GB worth of mostly vids posted with RS, but if they are not going to extend my account I wont be adding anymore. We'll see who long those links last...

I a personally am going to give megaupload a chance. It has a similar reward program to RS, and that is good enough for me.

This is a trying time for all of us, and I have only been a poster for a year and half or so, but this really took the wind out of my sails. I can only image the size of accounts Morri & GHE, have.

Silk it might be worth an email to RS customer service.

I hit them up about losing my rapidpoints and they credited me 600 rapids.

It might not matter in your case because of the time passed, but it is worth a shot.
