What's Up With Rapidshare? + New File Hosts

that's true, there are still a lot of movies on RS. so it's not totally useless - but it's not the same without the sexy stuff

 

Yea i still find some good stuff on Rapidshare using other sites for movies & audio stuff.

 

What I find ironic is the majority of us seem to dislike SM (shit matrix) and yet most of the people posting in here seem to be using it. That kinda sucks.

 

Just wanted to say thanks to the mods for enforcing the rule to put the file sharing host in the topic/subject. That's saved me tons of time going thru the forums.

There are good reasons for not permitting Dvd and site rips, full movies or complete photo sets. Phun isn’t just trying to piss us off…it has to do with the doctrine of ‘fair use’.
While the distinction between fair use and infringement may be unclear and not easily defined, money is a key factor.

There can be a lot of reasons for limiting, banning, or preferring a host…but when only 2 or 3 cashwhores have been sanctioned…and not by member’s vote, suspicions are inevitable.

It may be that opening the gates to any and every hosting service (like ‘Big Pink’ does), would not work out at Phun.
On the other hand, it could help diffuse accusations of complicity, and keep the power from concentrating in favor of select cashwhores, assuring their survival and profit.

It seems the serious SM posters are dropping off other forums. What you see now is the tail end newbees who don't know all this incessant posting of reposts from forum to forum means nothing if SM does not pay.

I think the serious SM guys were waiting to be paid on JULY 31 and have not been paid yet so they have dropped off. Or maybe they have been banned. I know of one guy who had 4 names in the same forum and got clipped.

I post in foot fetish and bondage forums which are not as vast as PHUN but have gone through tumultuous upheavals with this SM nonsense. Let's hope this is the beginning of the end and SM posters keep having their CC billed to eternity, long after they realize they won't get a penny in return other than a renewable monthly membership.

 

I have rapidshare premium account more than 2 years. I think that this server was No1 in the world in 2008 and also in the first half of 2009, but after that, they started to change rules too many times. Some of this new rules are not good for users and that's why people started to search for some other services.

Still rapidshare have excellent support service and they have very fast upload/download speed for premium users.

Rapidshare is dying if you ask me. Not long ago most file were hosted on RS. After they changed the system to the one they have now more and more are going over other host's, so will i when my RS runs out.
Before they change i had one year left of my account after they started the current system i had 60 days left.

 

yeah, i noticed that not many people post RS links anymore...which is a shame, because that's the only site i have an account of, lol. I can still find movies, music in RS tho...just no porn.

So what do you think is gonna be the 'new' RS?

Arghhhh.. I had 4,650 rapids accumulated with RS, which is good for 3.9 YEARS! (99 points for each additional 30 days). I already traded in half of it to extend my account for an additional 2yrs. and don't know what to do with the rest. I don't think they will be around for more than 2 years with their new thinking so I don't want to waste it.

There's a button to send rapids to a friend, but I don't have anyone to share it with. I would like to start a HF Premium account, so is there a way to trade it for HF with someone else?

Based on all the discussions here, I don't think SM will be the most popular choice to waste my money on.

BTW, I still use RS for conventional downloading so my account won't go to waste.

From today's post looks like FS/SM is waning. Probably b/c all the greedy cash mongers didn't get paid in July. Maybe we'll get our forums back from the incessant reposters.

Noticed the same thing myself a few days ago and I heartily agree... confusion to the cashwhores.

 

A few members have touched upon this already, but just adding a further tidbit. It's unlikely SM is actually "hosting viruses". it's either the actual file you've downloaded is infected or SM may be generating pop-ups that are setting off the alarms. Not too long ago, Megaupload had pop-ups that appeared right during a download that would set-off virus tracker alarms and Netload (a filehoster not used here at Phun) actually tried to set tracker cookies when you clicked for a download - that was a couple years ago tho.

Hrm... SM is annoying, but what really sucks is the constant SM reposting cashwhores that were coming in repeated waves. Thankfully, much of that has died quite a bit.

Keep in mind that the 99 points per month is IF you keep within the 10GB storage limit and 30 GB per month download limit. Going beyond either the storage or download limit costs extra rapids... it's not a whole lot but can add up pretty quickly if you're not paying attention. Personally, I'm uploading files on RS that I'm actually trying keep track of (mostly on my personal thread project).

That is, until FS/SM has another promotion... but even if not, Phun will never go back to the old days when we happily - and conveniently- relied on one main filesharing host (Rapidshare). Change is good though and hopefully Phun will change just enough so that it's a unique place for sharing rather than just another dump ground for porn.

For it's worth from my point of view . . .

I hold premium accounts on RS, FS and HF and happily pay my dollars for the privilege.

However, my time at Phun seems to be coming to and end, as the one service that I can't to work properly is . . . HF. Works fine for about 30 mins, then chokes right up.

I guess it's "So long and thanks for all the fish"!!
