I'm positive there won't be a three-boobed mutant. There's no need for a three-boobed mutant. There was no three-boobed mutant in Dick's short story that Total Recall was based off of. That was just some silly shit Paul Verhoeven threw in. They didn't even go to Mars in Phillip K. Dick's story, only memories. This is not a remake of Arnold's film. This is a film based off the same Phillip K. Dick short story. This film will be different. It won't be as corny or over the top. It will be more accurate to the original story.

As for who plays the Sharon Stone role? Kate will play that role.

The original Total Recall was awesome...

This is the filmography of the new director they've hired. Shooting for the top, obviously

    Hawaii Five-0 (2010) ("Pilot")
Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009) (producer)
Live Free or Die Hard (2007)
    Underworld: Evolution (2006)
    Underworld (2003)

Michel Gondry is making Ubik. Should be pretty interesting.

LOL! The director is Kate Beckinsale's husband Len Wiseman. As for his work, Live Free Or Die Hard was damn good and received damn good reviews. I thought it would suck. It certainly better than all but the original. It's too bad he shot it as an R rated film, and the studio forced a PG-13. The Hawaii Five-O pilot also kicked ass and received very good to great reviews. It's jump started that series. The Underworld films he directed weren't bad considering they were first films he'd ever done, and were shot on 20 million dollar budgets.

I'll take Len Wiseman over Michael Bay, Stephen Sommers, Brett Ratner, Joel Schumacher, Roland Emmerich, McG, and others. I'll bet good money this will be a better directed and better acted film than any of Bay's Transformer films, or any of his films period. Len is good with a camera, great at shooting and staging action sequences and stunts, doesn't like to use CG except where absolutely necessary, and at least gets competent performances from his actors, something the guys I mentioned rarely if ever do.

It's okay, in spite of it's bad, over the top acting and it's often ham-fisted direction. I've always liked it, but never thought it was anywhere near as good as many seem to think. It could have been better.

There's got to be a joke there, but I'm not smart enough to know it.

I like that director. He sort of has a comic book style, which he used again in Starship Troopers, and which worked really well in Robocop.

Right... because Kate Beckinsale has been in exactly how many good films? Zero. Biel? One (The Illusionist). And where's Farrell been of late? Ethan who? Furthermore, Biel's already appeared in a PKD adaptation - Next, with Nic Cage (a better actor than Farrell) - it wasn't any good. Uma Thurman and Ben Affleck were in Paycheck, it was even worse. Colin Farrell was in Minority Report with Tom Cruise starring - it was underwhelming (more MI-style toy display than Sci Fi).

Also, the film is called Total Recall. Given PKD never wrote a story called Total Recall (but a short story called 'We Can Remember it for You Wholesale'), forgive me for being sceptical that this new adaptation will be far removed from the original movie.

The source story is not even all that interesting anyway. There is far better stuff out there. To make a really good movie out of it, you'd need to take on aspects of other works, or build on it with original material (as with the original, I expect that extra originality to be mostly action and lame one-liners).

Add to the above the director... pretty much exclusively known for action films, and not very good ones at that, and my expectations are not high.

    [/arsehole mode]

Thanks for the info. There may be some small glimmer of hope for this movie being a quality PKD adaptation, but as I say, I'm sceptical given Hollywood's track record. The original movie was a fun action flick, and I'd watch the remake, re-imagining or whatever you want to call it, at least hoping for the same. Which is fine, I just get irked by the number of action movies PKD's works have spawned, given at least 99% of his stories contain very little of it.

The best PKD movie I've seen would have to be A Scanner Darkly, the only other good adaptation is Blade Runner (before anyone reacts to that, yes, I do think it's a better movie than ASD, but not a better adaptation).

Looking forward to seeing Radio Free Albemuth. Low budget, but from all I've heard it is faithful to the book. Will also be seeing The Adjustment Bureau shortly.

In my opinion, Verhoeven's weirdness/kink was the best part of that movie.
