What's wrong with those file hosts tho?

 

For me, Oron is pretty slow in d/l speed and I for one am glad that it is banned.

Although I am not sure as to why FileServe and wupload are banned, as I find them to be pretty reliable hosts with decent speeds and minimal ads (much better than either FileSonic or the dreaded FileFactory, IMHO).

 

I agree with BreastQuest, I've never had any problems with Fileserve. Can someone post a link or a short explanation about why those two file hosts are banned?

I'm not disagreeing with the policy, I'm just curious.

 

well...
due to rapidshare`s change of policy we more or less had two options - do nothing (actually phun isn`t very fond of cash-hosts!) and leave the vid-sections more or less abandoned or ease limitations by allowing a few filehosts. it turned out to be hotfile and filesonic. the troubles we have due to cash-link-spammings make it pretty doubtful if we ever will allow any more of those hosts.
let`s say hotfile and filesonic have been luck because they were there when we need to take action. there`s no benefit for any member of the phun-staff, just to stop any kind of conspiracy-theory.

 

1. They are all cash hosts which promotes reposts so posters can get more points.

2. Oron is dead slow and requires a 3 hour wait btw dls.

3. Fileserve dls are "interrupted" more often than not.

4. Wupload, dead slow and interrupts.

5. Cash hosts promote reposts and more reposts and then even more reposts on the reposts.

6. Did I mention reposts? If not I meant to, cash links promote reposts.

7. Reposts dilute forums to liquid mush.

Never had those problems with Fileserve and Wupload. My experience using Fileserve as a free user has been perfect, no interruptions, and my DSL line is saturated during a Fileserve download.

Why should that be a problem for someone who downloads? IMHO, more reposts means many more sources for uploaded content, making it much harder for the content to be entirely and forever deleted.

It's true that reposts appear in forums. But to me, the benefit of avoiding having a single upload being vulnerable to being forever deleted more than outweighs the slight cost of having to view reposts in a forum.

I've encountered many examples of single uploads being deleted and unavailable forever, it's a very bad thing. Don't forget the debacle after Hotfile deleted all the files stored on their system due to legal pressure.

However, it's a value judgement. If the mods decide that using cash hosts are, on balance, more harmful than good, I can understand that position.

I was just curious about the limitation of file hosts. But TheRiver has explained the thinking behind that policy.

 

Then go to a forum that allows those hosts.

Oron, Wupload and Fileserve are inferior hosts.

Reposts for the sake of someone collecting cash points are sickening to me. Reposts dilute and destroy forums.
