Speaking of Munn. They show an old scene of she and Kevin drinking Hot Sauce Shots on today's AOTS. Oh yeah, you guys know this is Kevin's last month on G4TV. After the E3 special he's moving on. So I guest Morgan Webb will be the last of the original G4TV crew.

 

AOTS was actually pretty watchable for a minute there, back in the 08-09 days. But as with anything Geek Chic, it eventually overstayed its welcome, and, at least I think, became something of a self-parody. Especially after Olivia took her "hiatus" (which, as a sidenote, is hysterical, because G4 essentially gave her a two-year window to flop in Hollywood and return without embarrassment), they pushed way too hard. As much as people trash Olivia as a no-talent, she really knew how to play to the key demo without, say, shoving a camera up her own ass ala Alison Haislip. She had a real knack for being the sex symbol without being obvious (again, looking at you, Haislip). Of course, the show basically admitted that they valued Olivia as little more than eye candy when they let Sarah Underwood stand in for her, as well as the other dubious talents they paraded through the studio after her departure.

I do like Kevin, though. Don't know what he's going to end up doing (I just read he's only 29, which blew my freaking mind. He's been at the network since at least 2002) but I hope it's something on air.

 

Hey that was some of the best Haislip footage ever. I always knew she had a body and boy did she prove it with that bikini moment. Maybe she'll do Playboy to let us fanboys know she still out there. Olivia Munn's run of AOTS was pretty good IMHO. I had stop watching AOTS after Sarah Lane and her two co-host ( I forgot their names) had their last show. I figured AOTS was over, so I stop looking for it. Two months later I'm channel checking and find AOTS still on the air with two new host Kevin and Olivia. I've been looking at it every since then. I was sad to see Munn exit and I though no one could ever replace her and I was very pissed that they bought in Candace to replace her.

Candace quickly grew on me, even through I was trying my best to fight it. Her innocence and southern drawl won me only in two months. Learning she was gymnast was really fascinating, hearing her talk about her training was cool and I wish they would let her tell more stories about her gymnast day. I would really like to know what made her make the switch from gymnastic to acting. I mean she said she was in a Pringles Commerical when see was 10 yrs, so was gymnast a hobby for her and acting more of a career? Then I learned she was a co-host on a Nickelodeon show, dated Seth Green (that guy gets all the good ones), did voice work on both Family Guy and Robot Chicken, on a few seasons on Jericho (I've never watched the show), and a contestant on MTV's Say What Karaoke. Personally I think Candace is one of the more interesting girls they've ever had on AOTS and
once she leaves I'm done with AOTS and G4TV. I barely look at X-Play any more and there's only so much Cops and Ninja Warrior you take

 

DirecTV dropped G4 two years ago, so I've been out of the loop since then, but it appears G4 is on its last legs. Kevin is a something of a loss to people who enjoyed AOTS, but I just found out that they also just lost Adam Sessler from X-Play, who quit after contract negotiations broke down, which is a huge loss not just to fans, but to the G4 brand. Adam was actually respected in the gaming world, and despite the freakshow nonsense changes they made to X-Play (a variety show? Really?) his reviews are among some of the most well-informed and even-handed in the industry. Losing him is a huge blow, and certainly so is losing Kevin. Putting both losses in the same, what, week? is a big deal. I'm not sure how they're going to bounce back from this. Certainly Chris Hardwick isn't going to be able to fill Kevin's shoes permanently, and there simply isn't anyone working today who can replace Adam in quality or stature.

I mean, just look at G4's schedule for today. We start the day at 8AM with a two-hour, four-episode block of Cheaters, arguably the worst "reality" TV show in history. Follow that up with a back-to-back episodes of Quantum Leap, which eats up the rest of the morning. Finally, at 1PM, we get our first G4 original, AOTS. Follow that up with two episodes of X-Play, two episodes of Ninja Warrior, and then it's right back into the crap pile with a five-episode block of COPS. Then an episode of X-Play, another AOTS, and then...Predator 2, because nothing says "Night at the Movies" like a 22-year-old cursing and gore fest on basic cable. And then we get another five-episodes of COPS, then for no reason whatsoever an episode of Campus PD, two more Cheaters, AOTS, and two more Quantum Leaps before we cue up the infomercials.

So that's FIVE FUCKING HOURS OF COPS EVERY DAY. That's 1/4 of the total programming on the network. Four hours are dedicated to Quantum Leap, a show that went off the air when I was still young enough to have to ask permission to stay up the extra hour to watch it. Three hours go to Cheaters, which is as much time as AOTS gets. X-Play gets all of an hour-and-a-half. No wonder they're laying people off and losing their top talent to who knows what.

So Adam's gone and Kevin's gone that really leaves Morgan Webb as the last of original G4 crew standing. I wonder if she's next to go ? Oh yeah Chris Hardwick left G4TV early this year, he was on AOTS last month talking about his Comedy Central stand up special that airs sometime this year, he didn't give an air date. So I guest AOTS will be hosted by Candace and Sara and X-Play by Morgan and Male Blair (who's not that bad, but he's just not Adam). If Morgan leaves X-Play too, then they can always get Male Blair and his wife Jessica Chobot to host. it's going to be interesting to see long X-Play and AOTS can last, but again once Candace Bailey leave G4 I'm done with channel. I wonder how long is she under contract with the network. I would love to see her as the new host of The Soup on E!. I think she could breathe new life into that show.

Oh and as for G4 showing Predator 2 don't worry they cut out most of the gore and bad words. I won't be looking at it on G4 since I have Predator 2 on VHS, DVD, and I've seen it over 50 times. If I want to watch Predator 2 I'll watch it on DVD; I love that movie even more than the original Predator.

 

I stopped watching ZDTV/TechTV/G4 when they all merged and dropped all the original programming (hell, for me, X-Play is still "Gamespot TV"). None of these changes are that shocking - it's been going steadily downhill for a decade. I miss the days when they actually had intelligent programming. Olivia was a rare bright spot, but they took a network that had actual value and tried to make into the geek version of spike tv - and failed miserably. This is just the long, slow death they brought on themselves.

Oh and Blair Butler still does a Fresh Ink here and there, and she was on g4 I think before the merger.

Alison was kinda embarrassed by how the shark stuff was edited, but went with it. I think she was surprised by how it ended up airing. She she didn't film or edit it. She just got to do something awesome for free. I mean it was a shark swimming package, and I never noticed any sharks Saying she was obviously trying to be a sex symbol is ridiculous. Olivia did a cliff diving thing in a bikini. I think Alison was way more authentic/genuine than Olivia, especially when it came to gaming and Star Wars and Star Trek stuff. Sara Underwood is just squeaky eye candy who isn't qualified to review anything. Alison is awesome

G4 should just get absorbed by E! and get it over with. It only has 2 shows anyway. Combine AOTS and XPlay and call it E! Attacks or something.

Though, Matt Mira has done a good job on the reviews, taking over from Hardwick. I like big boned people getting on tv instead of all the blonde orange toothpicks.
