Interesting you should ask.....I think you are referring to the wasps in a hedge....no, I just leave them alone, etc. However, I did start pressure washing my house today...this morning....doing the second story north side first as it is the worst section of the house.....In the process of doing that, I discovered a HUGE regular wasp nest...roughly 4 by 10 inches. :shock:.....I disabled and blew away the wasps (detergent and bleach).....the blasted the nest to oblivion. It was located where two eve lines intersect. Geez, those bastards are everywhere!

 

Holy crap! I hope you got the queen, and that they don't dome back!

 

How did you get the bleach on the nest?

 

My pressure washer has a siphon feature...I put bleach into a 5-gallon bucket along with about a quart of detergent, then put the siphon apparatus into the bucket.....with a certain nozzle, the bleach/detergent is added to the water blast....the detergent and bleach will destroy the wings....the wasps are doomed.

 

Damn, that sounds pretty final.

 

Yep...the detergent breaks down any oily or waxy protection the critter has, then the Clorox breaks down their hydro-carbon structure.....

I have an older neighbor that I visited the other day.....saw three wasps nests on his entry porch....he has wasp spray, but his eyesight is so bad, he can't see the nests.....so I got them for him....spray shots a bead of insecticide about 20 feet....and it has fast knock down.....so wasps are history and nobody got hurt.

 

The wasps have your most-wanted picture in their post office!

 

I cannot remember the last time I was stung......has been several decades I think....I usually don't have a problem with them if I see them in time.....Squirt a nest at night using a flashlight....all the wasps are on the nest at night and that way you know you got them all.....plus, if you miss a few, turn off the light....they can't see in the dark...

I plan on doing more of the house tomorrow morning......not sure just what I am going to do.....probably walk around with my coffee and formulate plan....make take me three days to do the entire house....only worked 3 hours today, but don't like getting tired and working on roofs and ladders.....plus I work slowly and carefully...need to be sure of my footing and balance....pulling the trigger on a 4,200 psi wand is similar to touching of a 12 gauge shotgun. :shock:

 

Raised a poor southern boy, you had to learn all the tricks......some lessons the hard way too.

 

You'd better be careful -- I don't wanna read about a guy in FLA falling off a ladder!
