I had my last vehicle for 26 years and this current one for almost 12 years....I tend to buy vehicles new and keep them for a long time. I have not had a car payment in over 13 years. I use to do all of the light servicing myself, but no longer do that....it is just not worth it.

 

Sounds like the car should be good as new after that, Thore!

 

If it wasn't for taking my oldest to and from airports (Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa) I would not put 3,000 miles a year on my car. I just don't use it much except for grocery store trips and when I have to go somewhere local and it is raining.

 

But the maintenance is still important after 10 years.

 

No doubt. I did not have stock brakes put on the front....paid a little extra to get a higher quality after market system put in....these should not cause any problems and only need to have the pads replaced when necessary.....I hate maintenance, so this is normal for me....

 

Trivia: When I was little, we had the exact Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser station wagon they used on That '70s Show!

 

I should say I hate major repairs.....no problem with routine maintenance....very conscientious about that.

 

You don't see station wagons anymore.....I guess the minivans replaced them.

 

Over here there are still a lot station wagons

SUV's are glorified station wagons that may handle rough roads a little better than a standard passenger car...To me, my SUV is just a utility vehicle....I can carry cargo in it that I could not in a standard passenger car. I almost bought a pickup truck instead of the Dodge Durango.....still could use a older small pickup from time to time. I have no place to store a utility trailer, so hauling things home like fertilizer bothers me having to put it in the Durango, even though I put a tarp down in the back first....hate having to have my gas cans in the back....you know, when making fill up runs to the gas stations. :?
