Seeing as we're a multi-cultural board, what word/phrase is an offense to you guys?

 

Honestly not much. One that does bother me tho is gringo. I dont like being referred to as that.

 

Well, for me, it is anything derogatory or unkind........life is tough enough without unnecessary meanness....:?

 

For me it could be anything, Jamms. It's always the intent of the insult for me, and not necessarily the word itself. So my "list" would contain words that range from mild to terrible.

 

I am going to call it a day and hit the hay......to all a good evening (or morning if that be the case...) and I shall hopefully see you all again very soon.

Scots get called Jock, or Jock's, which some accept but it's usually spoken in a derogatory form. We also get called sweaties, which is a short of sweaty sock (rhymes with jock). I know a few Scots that are okay with this but the majority of us dislike it as it is seen as a demeaning term and refers to Scots as Scots as second class citizens. Something I have experienced personally, many times.

 

I hear ya Still not real happy with that but I'll get over it. Been at this God-forsaken place for almost 19 years now so I go through it from time to time....Just a lot of stress right now because of time constraints to get stuff done. Other than that things are going pretty well thanks.

Not much really, I do get kinda pissed at the red-neck term every now and then that I hear it...but not very often..like many things it depends on the context it's being used in.

A couple years ago we were unloading the truck. I was on the line. There was a glitch on the line, causing the boxes of freight to buckle and ram into each other and come to a stop. We were all sweating our asses off - just dripping. A guy on the truck came out and looked at me (and the other guys) and said, "You guys are all lazy." I went nuts: I squared off to the guy and said, "What the FUCK did you call me?!" Someone had to grab me, because I started going right at him. All because of the word "lazy."

 

I thought I remembered you saying that you being a Scotsman was derogatory, am I dreaming that or what?

Are "Scot," Scotsman" and "Scotch" OK to use?

 

I would have lost it there too. Less for the word lazy, more for undermining or downplaying the effort that im putting forth.

I have two bosses at work. One is the same as us, came up through the workforce and became entitled to be a director of the company, the other simply walked into it. The other gave his 24 year old son a management position with no experience. After seven (for me) and eight (for a couple of others) years of hard work and dedication the system broke down and we were (an still are) being accused of not putting in any effort and of being lazy . Trying to tell the fucker who accused us of being lazy that the previous x-amount of years were down to our sweat landed on deaf ears.

 

Scotch is not ok......yuck
