I'm going to ride it out, as repairs for this type of thing are rarely successful.

 

The lump has been there about 5 months now. Maybe I can fix things with duct tape.

 

I have never heard of an incisional hernia. I have fairly recently had an umbilical hernia repaired....a hernia in your belly button. When I was 6, 10, and 14 years old, I had hernia repairs done in my lower abdomen. All those repairs (4) are still holding together.

Knowing what the hernia is should be helpful, as in peace of mind if nothing else. I wonder why it is so difficult to have a successful repair.....and wouldn't they use a mesh in that repair.....as was done with my umbilical hernia. Did the folks today indicate what may have caused the incisional hernia?

 

Having that is just another very good reason to not gain weight, especially belly fat behind the abdomenal muscle wall.

 

The cause was the weakness in the abs caused by the incision. Since it's small now, I hope that strengthening of the abs contains it.

 

I am no doctor, but I did learn a bit about the ab muscles around the navel....seems there are several layers of muscle that run vertically thru that area.....they are not attached to each other, but rather overlap. This works well if you are not belly fat. That conditions spreads these muscles out so there is less overlap and, as with me, there is separation between these layers of muscle. If I were to attempt a situp, there would be a huge bulge running up and down the center of my abdomen. The only cure is for me to get a flat belly again by losing about 60 more pounds....:?

 

Thankfully I've kept myself in shape. So there's no a lot of belly fat there. Unfortunately, I'm not one of those guys with a "natural 6-pack," which is hereditary. I wish I were though!
