The aroma of smoke still lingers but it's no stronger than it was before. It's possible someone has a fire on the hearth and is gettin' busy.

I'm going to audit the forum for a while, back in a bit....

I'm listening to Leftoverture. Kansas was amazing.

 

Kansas was a great band. Phil Ehart (sp?) was a super drummer, too.

 

I just looked him up. Ehart was the founder of the band!

 

Drummer and percussionist; he played the vibes beautifully. So much musical talent in that band. What's more Steve Walsh, Kerry Livgren and Robby Steinhardt could all sing exceptionally well. I love listening to them.

 

Yup. He, Dave Hope and Livgren are the core of that group. They play about 10 instruments between them.

Not one of them is involved in the group anymore. :?

Turns out one of the things that broke up the band in the '80s was most of the band's conversion to Evangelical Christianity. They started writing Christian songs.

 

I doubt Jesus would approve. :28:

He reveals that he himself is a Christian, but he didn't think it was fair to the band members who didn't share Kerry Livgren's views to turn the band into what effectively was acting as a Christian band. He also doesn't include himself with Kerry Livgren and Dave Hope when he describes it as "one third of the original six". If you counted Phil, it would be half, not a third. He may just be referring to one third of the original members as having recently had conversion experiences, or he may have meant that one third had the view Kerry Livgren had about using Kansas as a vehicle for evangelistic songs, a view Phil obviously didn't share. Then again, it's possible that he just doesn't identify himself as an evangelical the way they do, and that's what the percentage referred to. I did read a report of him calling into the Bible Answer Man saying that he was a regular listener, though. That's one of the reasons I prefer instrumental music. Lyrics are often influenced by ideology, or a worldview. People don't always agree on words. Instrumental music isn't burdened by that handicap.

 

I'm gonna read and go to bed. I figure I have 2 more days of this cold to endure - I'd better get some good sleep.
