    When I was a little kid, I was amazed at the number of "wild" parakeets there were in Sarasota, Florida (where my maternal grandparents lived).

    I'm generally snooping around here much later at night. Those just happen to be the hours I've kept lately. ;)
    My niece says there's a breed of small parrot that has made Phoenix home, likely under similar circumstances. I haven't seen any though. On the other hand, turkey vultures circle overhead every day because because our house is backed up on a dry creek full of cottontails and other critters. Our front yard is popular with 3 different species of dove, several finches, grackles, sparrows and pigeons, among others. :)

    It is normal for Sarasota to never drop down to freezing in the winter......a perfect climate for parakeets.....the word was the flock of parakeets was made up of escapees and their offspring. :lol:
