Back....a little over an hour, but I found a few other things I needed to do. Spent some time today trying to fix my vacuum power head. It was barely running.....took it apart and really could not observe anything wrong with it, so I used light household oil to lube all of the moving parts that I could see.....working a little better now, but still not completely right.

Good Morning PM... Day was overcast and much cooler here with a high of only 55F instead of near 80F. Glad I cut and split some more fire wood up last week! :)

I have not done any welding since I was 14 when I built one bike from three wrecked Tryumphs I bought for $250 I saved up from my paper route. :)

I used what is sometime called "sewing machine oil" It is very light and I worked it into all the moving parts (mostly ball-bearing type parts), then wiped it as clean as I could as I feared a heavier oil would possibly gum thing up.....a lot of fine dust goes around all those parts. Just keeping my fingers crossed it works, or I will have to make a trip to the GoodWill (used) store in hope of finding a reasonable replacement for around $15. I am not in a position to do anything else at present.

I have been doing quite a lot of welding over the years..

"sewing machine oil" is excellent when lubricating small items.

I took welding in shop class during my 8th grade. The following summer is when I built the bike. The equipment belonged to a friend of mine. His father had all the equipment and supplies....his father had died from a heart attack. The family had no use for his tools and sold them all shortly after I finished my bike...and soon moved away. I have not had access to equipment since, and the so much has changed regarding welding equipment, etc. since then. It was electric arc welding that I did.

I had to look that up.....it said it emulsifies with water making a white sludge.....as my floors often have drops of water on them from the dogs, I am not sure that would be good for my purpose....

It was tough. I ended up using an engine and frame that did not match, so I had to cut/grind off the engine mounts, make new ones, and weld them on. I remember measuring, making, and spot welding the new mounts on the frame, then hoisting the engine into position, noting the correction needed in the placement of the mounts, then trying again......and again......and again... But I finally got it either right or good enough....used that bike for five years and put about 100K miles on it before selling it to help finance college.

I did a lot of buying old and dysfunctional Hondas, fixing them up, riding them for a short while, then selling them for a profit. I did that between the ages of 19 and 23. Probably averaged making between 2 and 3 hundred $ per bike.....good money back then!
