    Hate to dispel that notion for you bro, but what Westerners call "belly dancing" originated in the Northern territories of ancient India and spread through Asia and the Middle East. Only reason I know this, beyond the obvious love of belly dancing is that a couple of my buddies are into the whole drum circle thing, and there are five or six local girls here who actually run schools and/or are practitioners professionally and trust me, I have asked allllllll about it...esp since you can think of nothing else when they are gyrating on the beach in bikini tops and silk dancing skirts...
