Chrome has a similar feature as well.

 

When you got your sites back Thore then go to IE and import your sites from FireFox, that way you got a backup

Hi GB. Always on time for tech support!

 

I tried to uninstall just FF, but that did not work.....seems the worm was embedded in the bookmarks and/or other "personal data" that FF had associated with. The bug was definitely in FF as there was no problems with IE. I was only able to rid myself of the bug when I uninstall everything associated with FF.

 

You can also backup your bookmarks to file that can then be later imported Firefox and many other browsers and services.

Menu > Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Click button on toolbar for "Import and backup"

You'll get a bookmarks.json file that you re-import to a fresh Firefox profile or another browser.

Speaking of which, I sent cayne a potential/partial fix for that "want to leave" and double posting thing. It just disables the feature totally so it doesn't even show when it's supposed to. Didn't hear back yet, hard to say if he'll use it.

If you use that sync feature then when you need to reinstall FF next time you could just sign in to sync and it would download that stuff like your bookmarks and settings. Firefox just put out a new version, I'm wondering if maybe it updated and one of your addons is now buggy?

 

Certain words became links (underlined and a change in color)....example, the word health would lead to a pop up having to do with health insurance advertisement......this would happen in phun, weather pages, etc. In addition, command buttons became very sluggish.....sometimes having to wait 30 seconds or so to be able to successfully execute the command. There were indications that there was a great deal of data transferring going on while little was being done related to the site currently on the screen. After a day of this, I got an unsolicited notice saying I was infected and click here to clean my pc of the infection. Webroot did not find the infection. It all seemed related to me and the scam was to get me to pay to get rid of the nuisance.

 

Oh, that's bad. I would look even more deeply than Firefox then and make sure you don't have anything lingering.

I am having to manually add the addons back on also. It is a good thing that I do not have omnipotent telekinetic powers as I would kill the assholes responsible for this kind of shit.

 

It appears I am rid of the bug, but only about 20% of add-ons and book marks have been reestablished, so there is several more hours of work to do.....

 

I have done all that I know how to do.....it did not show up in IE or Chrome and I have run my security scan (which did not find anything).
