    My new printer arrived today....my old HP died, but I will take it to a friend to have a look see. I went from a $400 printer to a $100 printer....a sign of the times.....(sigh)

    Back in '74 I paid $250 for one.....I was glad to get it at that price as it was $400 in '72. I don't know what I paid for the one I have now, but have had it for over 20 years...an HP-10c.

    Unfortunately as the components age, the closer they come to being obsolete. Thus, the price will decrease. Look at flat screen TVs over the last few years.

    I have always bought HP equipment (printers, scanners, etc.), but I took half a day to look at the competition that was available, including multiple product reviews by both pros and simple consumers......and ended up buying a Lexmark mono laser.....a similar HP would have been pushing $300. We shall see if this works out or not.

    What really get my dander up is the cost of replacement ink and toner cartridges.....cartridges are almost $100! My printing quantity is way down now, so I am hoping a cartridge will last me at least three years...

    About all I print now is copies of bank transactions and bill payment receipts....so mono printers are fine for me. I used to have both B/W laser printer and a color inkjet printer, but I printed color so infrequently, the damn jets were constantly drying up. I found it was cheaper to just go to a store and have my photo printed there......much cheaper as I have not done that in over five years! :rofl:

    I've been using an old HP Deskjet D2445. It does what I really need and the ink cartridges are fairly inexpensive. I really haven't put more than two or three cartridges in it since I got it.
