I predicate this by saying I am a fan..I think she's extremely beautiful, has a very level head on her shoulders and is a better actress than many her age. That being said, I find it odd that she has become the spokesperson for feminism at a global level. She's been sheltered from an early age due to her fame, is very wealthy..so much so that I can't imagine she could ever identify with the problems most people face and has never been faced with hardship of any sort that I know of, much less subjected to any glass ceiling issues. So is this initiative done out of purely liberal ideology or is she saying she is representative of inequality in gender relations? I just don't get that...I'm not knocking her if it's a true passion, but it begs the question as to motivation since her career isn't exactly packed with stellar roles or projects post HP days. Love the girl...just wondering how she can relate

 

Interesting question. Princess Diana was literally born into royalty yet she did great things, I doubt she had too many hardships growing up either.
Understanding human inequality and possessing empathy or compassion comes from intelligence. Emma is smart.

 

Acting does not really seem to be her thing. Even if she still loves it or claims to do so (or not, I don't know), if you position yourself like that for an effort, you are kind of destroying/undermining your effect as an actor. This is, of course, strictly related to the person and not to all the buzz that the PR machinery can create.

Unless one is a psycho or sociopath empathy is part of their human endowment, like walking upright and language. It’s not a question of wealth or intelligence, we come here with it. Callousness, chauvinism, hate and greed are taught and learned. We only live in a Hobbesian world because sociopaths and those who choose to trade in their humanity for a buck run it – and, so far, we’ve let them.

Did you listen to her speech last September? because she did, in fact, list off both ways she herself has been affected by gender inequality, and how others around her, both male and female, have been. And she also spoke about the ways, both very personal because of the way she was raised within her family, and in the larger world through her good fortune in her career, that she has been shielded from problems many others are crushed by.

She seems to feel that, since she is in the public eye, and has the public ear, she's got a responsibility to put that to use to do good in the world, and as we're living in a world in which women are subjects of vast levels of discrimination and belittlement, it's an area where she can help.

I think it's even more admirable, given that she could just sit behind a protective wall of her money and not be bothered.

 

Yeah, you can see how Sean Penn, George Clooney Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have completely sabotaged their acting careers by becoming politically active for causes of social justice.

 

Her lack of talent is what came through at the end of the day.

Anytime someone wants to get their point across in a global way, they almost always defer to a celebrity with recognizable worldwide star power. From a public relations point of view, there is no better way to get you message out, than to find someone girls and women can immediately recognize. That in and of itself is half the battle, after that it's just a matter of having that person relay your message. In many cases the celebrity doesn't even need to have suffered from the problem or be devoted to the cause.

 

Good for her. She could choose to be a money and fame whore like a lot of other celebrities but she'd rather do something to help other people.
I give her much respect for that.
On the other hand, the pig in me can't stop looking at this picture and having bad thoughts.
