I think its pretty obvious that Taylor likes both the D and the V. She's definitely the type of girl who is going to marry a guy and have lots of kids some day. Don't know, but this does scream "Beard!" She is seen getting very cozy with Karlie Kloss and gives lots of interviews that she is happily single and too busy working and isn't going to date publicly. And then, all of a sudden, out of the clear blue sky, during her absolutely busiest time (preparing for a world tour), she MAGICALLY starts going on high-profile, high-visibility dates with a random guy who is not too famous, but famous enough for the paps, and would certainly love the exposure and notoriety.

I can certainly see Taylor's handlers saying, "Listen, there is still some portion of your audience that won't accept this, so we need to go public with SOMETHING to placate them."

 

Eh, that really doesn't make sense though. "Taylor and Karlie are getting too close. There is still some portion of her audience that won't accept this. So let's schedule a major Vogue cover shoot with them together! Maybe nobody will see it, even though its on magazine stands everywhere".

If Taylor's handlers wanted to play down the Kloss rumors, the fairly recent Vogue covershoot of them together doesn't fit that plan.

If you look at Taylor's entire dating history since she was in high school, there is no way that anyone can say that she doesn't like guys. Her dating history screams "straight girl, with maybe some bisexual tendencies".

Besides, Taylor's "happily single" persona that she's been on since her new album came out only contributes to my belief that Taylor and Calvin are real. It's not like the "I'm happily single and I don't need a man" mantra that she's been on since last year was a failure. Quite the opposite, her fans and the general public have greatly accepted it, it turned her reputation around (don't forget, her reputation was largely "she's a boy-crazy slut" rather than "she likes girls" prior to this), and it basically helped to turn her into the biggest and most successful Pop Star on the planet. Taylor has never had this level of success before, she's breaking records and selling more albums than anyone else, and she hasn't even peaked yet. If the "I'm happily single" narrative worked - and it definitely did - you don't change things now, especially by doing something (dating a guy) that contradicts the new image (I don't need a guy) that she's been working so hard to build since her new album launch. The timing of her dating Calvin makes me think the relationship is more real, not less. She just unexpectedly fell for him. That's really the easiest and most logical thing to believe here.
