    Chic simply means trendy in French. Ugly-chic is a subversion of the good/bad taste ideals and concepts behind traditional beauty.

    Miley Cyrus is a perfect example. She's making herself 'ugly' as a statement against societal norms. Once tattoos, plastic surgery and porn-star attire become commonplace, women will likely go back to a more natural look to differentiate themselves. My personal tastes trend toward the traditional and natural with just a hint of the risque.
