    I don't understand how this show got the go ahead or how they got so many of these actors to agree to be on it. The movie was one of the worst things ever made and just had a bunch of people that ended up getting big later.

    First, wow, I didn't know this was in the works.

    Second, a lot of David Wain's stuff and Wet Hot American Summer in particular get misunderstood. A lot of people mistake his intentional and particularly silly parody as just unintentionally bad. This has made it something of a cult classic—the few that get his comedy love it while everybody else hates it.
