People keep the personal insults to a minimum alright. We are willing to allow tongue in cheek comments and frankly some of the comments targeted towards Miley Cyrus is something that comes with the way she has decided to go with her career. So in short comments like whore, slut bitch will be removed the same goes for comments like retard targeted towards other members.

 

about time. some of these threads are dominated by personal insults and endless slagging of the celebrity involved, rather than what the title originally stated.... it's getting to be a joke. if you don't like the celebrity then don't bother clicking on the thread?? is that too simple??

The problem with going in and remove threads to harshly is that some posters will be scared of and threads will mainly consist of thank you post. Its a tightrope to decide where too draw the line. Sometimes all that is needed to make a public reminder in the thread.

 

And to my mind, this spells the death of the forum. There are other websites that post these same pictures and even ones that aren't allowed here anymore, but it is the ability to engage in public discourse that makes Phun unique. Unfortunately, this battle continues to rage on where some people only believe that niceties be exchanged here.

I mean seriously, suppose a thread contains pictures of a coked out and barely clad Lindsay Lohan for example, these self-righteous types only want members to reply "nice one" and "thanks for Lindsay" comments instead of commenting about the obvious and the plausible? Ridiculous. :thumbsdown:

I want to see the Mods allow for both positive and negative comments that fall within the guidelines and weed out those members who insult, chastise and otherwise castigate the other members who wish to make whatever comments they choose so long as they remain within the rules of the forum.

And telling people not to click on a thread is a fascist statement - freedom of choice should prevail here.

 

There have been some well thought out discussions going back and forth in this thread. I've spent some time reviewing all of the posts and I have come to the conclusion that Miley has some nice tits.

In what way is this NOT plainly an open attack on a member who wasnt remotely alluding to the offender.

One is a comment about the op celeb, the second is off topic and personally offensive. Taken as single posts regardless of posting history or the rest of this thread, just as a snapshot, I believe this post+response is EXACTLY what the mods are trying to weed out. Am I in error?

 

As awful a reputation as I may have in these Miley Cyrus threads (which I honestly hadn't realized had reached such extraordinary proportions), I would like to note that I have never displayed any ill-will toward any member of this forum. And I still, to this moment, feel no such ill-will. I don't care about the comment sayten has directed toward me, these words have washed right over me. If there is a reputation and a standard to maintain in the forum, and for this reason some consequence must be incurred, then so be it. But I do believe banishment would be far too extreme a consequence for something so frivolous as a few hastily typed words spurred by a momentary lapse in judgment, or triggered by some simple impulse to defend a cultural turf. Whatever the explanation, the comment was poorly thought out, and had little effect on me. Considering also that what he had said (or an equivalent) was probably on the minds of several people, I don't think it would improve the state of the forum to ban the one person who had the courage to actually say what was on his mind, while a general atmosphere of corrosive sentiment boils directly underneath the surface.

I don't think people should be banned for saying what's on their mind. Instead we should provide a framework for intelligent discussion and not foster the sort of atmosphere where antagonistic behavior is rewarded. I think simply pointing out poor behavior in the thread as we are doing now is a very effective step in that direction.

I'd sooner face the truth, however unpleasant, then be forced to read the same redundant, soulless commentary time and again.

Hopefully my comment has been of some worth.
