    A majority of the money in the music business is made from touring/performing, not from record sales. In Britney's case, she has a very lucrative deal with a Las Vegas residency.

    Bands you haven't seen new music from in YEARS still make a ton of money hand over fist from touring. Poison, Def Leppard, and other acts make a ton of cash from a quick two-month summer tour of 20,000 seat venues in the USA.
