    Animation is the process of displaying still images in a rapid sequence to create the illusion of movement. These images can be hand drawn, computer generated, or pictures of 3D objects. Though most people associate animation with cartoons, it also has applications in industrial and scientific research. Regardless of the type, the viewer's body plays a main role in why people see continuous movement instead of a series of quickly changing images.

    Those are not the first gifs of their kind in this thread, as other people have strung together still images to create an animated montage or slideshow. The distinction between that and a looping video clip is not worth quibbling over. If the file extension is .gif and the image is in some way animated then it can find a home in this thread. While I admit that the transition between images could be slicker (fades or flips or what have you) the work still qualifies for this thread.
