    Brakes are most likely in the rear hub....standard for low end bikes here in the USA in the 1950's and 1960's. ;)

    If I recall correctly, you reverse peddle for less than one half of a revolution of the peddle crank before activating the braking system inside the rear wheel hub.

    this is a beach cruiser all over southern california, when people say no brakes they mean no hand brakes on either disc brakes or v-brakes, there is a foot brake
