that looks impossible. She either will be given a suspension of some months (Marin Cilic was given 9 in a similar - but not identical- case) or they will ban her for up to two years. Either way, no French Open and most probably no playing for at least the rest of the year.

Cilic by the way ingested unknowingly a banned substance contained in a glucose bar, it was a total mistake and he got 9 months, then reduced to 4. She on the other hand took willingly the banned substance, although not knowing the rule had changed. I guess they will hit her harder than him.

 

Have to wait and see whether her claims of needing the drug for medical reasons are true. This is a prescription drug and the reason it was banned was because they realised a lot of athletes were using it as a performance enhancer, which at the very least is immoral.

These top level players have teams of people to deal with this stuff, if she didn't know it was added to the banned list then someone in her team is in trouble, if she knew and kept using it she's an idiot, her reputation and millions in sponsorship have just evaporated.

Taking this drug looks like a sneaky way of cheating, I can see why some other players are pissed.

As with politicians it's often not the actual act that's their downfall but the lies to cover it up, will be interesting to see how this plays out.

 

Feel bad for Masha. I always thought there should be some leniency for something that "becomes banned." Obviously, it's always the athlete's responsibility to ensure that whatever he or she takes is acceptable, but if you have taken something for a long time and it was legal and then a couple of weeks after it becomes illegal you test positive for it and then openly admit it, it's hard not to assume it's an honest mistake and any punishment should be lenient.

As an aside, I'm sure Maria had a screaming match with her medical staff (one of who's main purposes, I would presume, it to be up on all the rules and make sure any treatment is OK) after this happened -- I'm sure at least one person got sacked.

Ten years taking a drug for Angina, which just so happens to imrove performance of sportsmen/ women.

Does she have angina? If she has any kind of heart condition she should steer clear of top-level tennis.

I'll draw my own conclusions.

 

It does not matter if it is a performance enhancing drug.
It was LEGAL to take it before January 1 2016.
It has only been illegal 3 months.
She took the drug illegally ONLY 25 DAYS.To put that into perspective,
the drug was legal for 10 years = 3650 days.
