IMO, if people you don't know can evoke emotion from you, by saying a few WORDS, to the point you get upset/stressed/depressed, that says more about your weakness as a person than anything else.

Fact of the matter is, women "objectify" themselves as much as men do. And they do it to.... wait for it...... attract men. Well, straight women anyway. Let's be honest. If any of us saw Ariel Winter in the street dressed like this, would your first thought be, "Gee, I wonder what she thinks of Obama's two terms as President"?, "I wonder who her favorite philosophers are."?, or "Damn, for a petite girl, her tits are huge...... wow, her ass is kinda showin' too. I'd love to _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. Today is a good day."? Point is, it's not wrong to see women for the sexual entities they are. Heh. Entitties. ;-)

 

I think you're overlooking the fact that teenagers aren't emotionally mature and tend to take criticism more personally than an older, jaded adult. And then throw in the celebrity factor of having millions of people talking about and judging you on both the internet and in the media... Well, it's enough to move anyone to emotional distress. I think anyone who is sane would suffer a crisis of self-confidence in a similar situation.

 

I've always noticed that exposing one's breasts will usually take all the criticisms away from a budding starlet's looks or weight. But maybe that's just me. :tongue:

It is also the case that actresses (and actors) rely on their bodies and faces for their careers (in addition to their acting talent), i.e., their body is their "instrument." Not many unattractive women make it big in Hollywood. Any celeb may be confident, but if hundreds of people say, anytime a photo is posted, that they are fat/ugly, that may naturally have a greater impact than if someone said it to any of us (to which we would say "fuck you," etc.).

 

I like the way that top is way the hell too small for those things.

 

I'd be willing to admit that that age played a factor in Ariel's "stressful" predicament, if not for the fact that a lot of grown female celebs tend to respond to criticism the same way she did. Hell, look at Amy Schumer. She's a 34 year old COMEDIAN (meaning she should be able to take a joke about herself without skipping a beat), and she responds emotionally to criticism when it comes her way. Maybe its a woman thing. As for the celeb factor, scrutiny and judgement from people you don't know comes with the territory. This isn't a new phenomenon. It might be exacerbated due to the rise of social media, but these celebs have the option to go on various media platforms to read about themselves, or not. It's their choice.

Bottom line, I'd love to have the "problems" that actors have. The whole "getting paid millions, at the cost of people talking bad about you anonymously on the internet" aspect of it wouldn't bother me. ;-)
