Celebrity GIF Thread - (Self-made GIFs only)

Usually I don't make them so big, click file, save for the web, which comes up with tons of options, I always just go with the default and they look ok. Never used gfycat, as my file sizes are usually small. Might have to re-up that one on gfy... Thanks for the feedback BTW.. :You_Rock_Emoticon:

 

When it comes down to it, gifs are always going to be constrained by the 256 color depth. Even when you do it dynamically so that it uses the best 256 colors for each frame, each frame is still limited to 256 colors. That's usually fine with SD video, but the value of HD doesn't come just in the number of pixels but that the range of colors expands logarithmically. SD video is built on 8-bit (256x256x256) and our eyes are clever enough to deal with the trickery. HD is 10-bit and 4K is 12-bit.

As a side reference, we can in theory distinguish 64 trillion colors, so 4K is not only beyond human resolution but slightly (by 4 trillion colors) beyond the visual spectrum. This is a long, roundabout way of explaining why I use gfycat. The animated gif is a relic of the 1990s and were never intended to be used for photographic animation. Like Flash, it's an outdated legacy standard that is being replaced by the HTML5 codecs that gfycat, etc. use for encoding mp4 videos to be heavily compressed yet still high definition. It's literally the difference between a sequence of static painted frames and code that instructs your browser how to draw the video in living color, which is also why animated gifs are so much bigger than HTML5 videos. A lot of my gfycats are too big for imagebam's 10MB cap if I saved them as gifs.

So, yeah. I'd recommend saving your clips as mp4 and posting HTML5 videos in the future. For future reference to get the thumbnails (since you're going to still have to host those on imagebam, the URL is thumbs.gfycat.com/[filename]-thumb100.jpg (100px thumbnail) or thumbs.gfycat.com/[filename]-poster.jpg (full-sized).
