    That's pretty easy to answer. First off her show (Vikings) shoots 10 months out of the year since their episode order jumped from 10 to 20. Secondly there aren't that many new female characters for her to be cast as. Her best and most recent option was Capt Marvel, and why would Marvel go with a 39 year old actress when they can cast a 27 year old, Oscar winning, up and coming star actress for the part? They can sign her to a 6 movie deal and by the end of it she won't have even hit 40 years old.

    No, the role for her if she is going to get one is more of a supporting cast role, one that utilizes her martial arts expertise. I love her for The Black Canary in the DCEU. Cast someone like Charlie Hunnam (36 y/o) as The Green Arrow and introduce them both in a Birds of Prey standalone movie or something.
