    @Theram

    Faces naturally have texture to them so if you retouch you need to either add texture back in (using noise) or paint out the individual blemishes through masking. Best source for advanced retouching techniques is 'restoration & retouching' by Katrin Eismann (new riders press) which is full of step by step pro techniques.

    I read somewhere that she wanted to bleach the freckles off.
    She also wants to do a sex scene in her next film.

    Original:-

    Retouch:-

    [IMG]

    Thought I'd demonstrate a simple retouch technique. The above isn't in any way remotely finished, but I removed a lot of the general blemishes, more obvious freckles and the party hard bags under her eyes. What your seeing took about 20 mins using a wacom and a slightly tired Pinchspoon :rolleyes: . For mad cap magazine retouching you might spend several hours.

    Anyhows basic technique:-

    1) open up your original image in Photoshop (CS onwards).

    2) Create a new empty layer above.

    3) Select the healing brush tool (not the spot healing) which preserves texture (unlike the clone tool).

    Set the brush size to about 5 - 10 pixels (dependant on the size of the image), take it down to about 80 - 90% hardness, the mode to normal, and tick the box to set it to sample all layers. You can use the [ ] keys to increase and decrease brush size on the fly when you are working as well.

    4) Ensuring you are working on the blank layer use the Alt key in combination with your mouse/or tablet Pen to select an area of clean skin as your source (you get a crosshair come up), once selected then simply 'paint' over the blemishes (it only takes once you finish the stroke) again on the blank layer. It is always best to select clean skin near to the blemish as this tends to blend in better due to the colouring.

    5) Whenever you retouch always work at 100 or 200% resolution, you get much better visual feedback from Photoshop in these modes than at 66% etc. as the image you see then is subject to algorithmic presentation rather than genuine pixel representation.

    6) It takes a while to get used to, but you can achieve very good results with this technique and if it all goes horribly wrong you can erase out the parts that don't work as they are on their own separate layer and redo them without damaging the original image (It's heresy to work directly on your original image layer :eek: )

    See how that works out for you Theram ;-)

    Pinchspoon

    BTW, If you are really into using Photoshop and don't already have a Wacom Tablet then seriously think about getting one, I use an A4 one, but the A5 ones are perfectly adequate and you gain so much more control and speed you'll never go back to a mouse.
