    All bikinis are two pieces, if it’s one piece it’s not a bikini it’s just a swimsuit

    The prefix bi- means two.
    The prefix mono- means one.
    So a bikini is two-piece swimsuit and a monokini is a one-piece swimsuit.

    Actually Bikini - mangled Pikinni - means 'Coconut Place' :) .
    It's atoll of Marshall Islands.

    Swimsuit was called after it because 'that season' (1946) it became (in)famous for bein' nuclear test site.

    monokini sometimes means just the panties from bikini or swimsuit that doas not cover that much as normal swimsuit

    ^ This. The swimwear is named for Bikini Atoll. The variations on it ("monokini," "burkini," etc.) are just that - variations. The "bi-" part is purely coincidental in the original word.
